AMD Polaris GPUs Can’t Run Forspoken Due To Lack DirectX 12_1 Feature Level Support, NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs Run Fine

Apparently the game can run on Polaris GPU's but only using linux. That being said its not a great look for AMD that its Polaris GPU's don't support feature level 12.1 when NVidia's older 900 series does.

Example below with a RX580

Haven't all AMD gpus had better dx level support since vega? I thought that it was nvidia that support less dx advancement back then?

It`ll be Conservative rasterization; Maxwell 1 cant do tier 1 Conservative Rasterization but Maxwell 2 can.

Skylake iGPU can do it as well.

Utterly moot point as the the extension , vk_amd_rasterization_order , in Vulkan does the same thing in software (as demonstrated above) with `minimal` performance hit. I say minimal as the game runs terribly on everything anyway - were talking 720p and low on a GTX 980 for 20 fps.

I think its because Linux uses a VDK translation layer, i don't pretend to understand it but might it be that it adds the missing extensions?

Proton. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_(software)

IMO the fact that the GPU CAN run it suggests to me is more a Windows problem, if If Linux can run it there is no reason why Windows can't.

As usual Linux is showing Windows up for the trash that it is.... My Linux fan acquaintance will like that.... :D @pete910

Hmmm should I make a Is Windows enough for gaming thread?

I've heard abit about Sqaure Enix having a bad rep when it comes to some games, esp PC ports when it comes to optimization.

Performance doesn't matter so much it's just that people couldn't run the game. If someone wants to play at 20 or 30fps low settings then so be it don't stop them, right now they are being stopped and told now you can't do this

This is pretty much at the same level as a steam deck in terms of playability and I don't see people saying SteamDeck owners shouldn't care if their machine can't run a game cause it's hardware is so weak and outdated
