AMD preparing faster Hawaii GPU

6gb minimum imho for 4k, oh wait those cards have been out a while now. Titan's may have been expensive at the time. But theyre showing their worth/longevity now. .

The problem is the Titan is now lacking raw speed even if it has the memory. a 780ti with half the memory matches it @ 4k i believe

Not when you hit the vram wall it wont.
However yes when your not needing the extra vram a TI will be faster , But you can add a card for more pixel pushing power unlike when you hit that memory limit more cards wont help.

4 Titans will annihilate 4 780ti's @4K.

3 or 4 up is the way to use Titans @4K to get the best out of the VRAM.

Well get 4 Titan Blacks in that case as they are basically 6GB Ti's with non crippled DP then you have the extra cores/etc and VRAM.. ;)

GM200 was supposed to appear by year's end. Still a month to go.

If the GM200 was appearing now, then the GK210 would not have been announced just in the last week, and there has been no noise about any commercial wins.

Its more likely we will see a dual GM204 card I suspect,or even a dual GK210 based one.

Even if AMD tweaked Hawaii I doubt it would really be any faster overall than a GTX980 at lower resolution.

With AMD they don't have anything new to launch just yet, so to better compete with 970 / 980 they are adding twice the vram to make current cards have more of a fighting chance, the 8GB cards are also price very low for a card with so much vram. So in this case I don't think it's milking. Just an extra incentive at a fair price.

If Nvidia launch an 8GB card I wouldn't expect to be priced anywhere near as reasonable :p. They are the market leader and have the performance edge so the premium is somewhat justified. They are ahead so milking is expected on the top tier stuff.

AMD have the R9 290, R9 290X and R9 290X 8GB. Not milking

Nvidia have GTX970, GTX980. Yet if they introduce an 8GB card they will be milking.

AFAIK the AIBs re-introduced the 8GBs. Not AMD. Same goes for price cuts but nobody checks facts and go around screaming about "AMD price cuts".

Pretty sure the gpu venders etc asked for green light and got a 6gb 780 made aswell i dont recall a reference version at all

If true then the image of the 295x2 esque cooler that was doing the rounds would make sense. A faster Hawaii would need liquid cooling.

Yes it will be the price that is milking not the fact there is new hardware.

290X 8GB £330. GTX 980 4GB £470. GTX 980 8GB £550? £650?

Nvidia can justify a premium as they are the performance leader, but at what point do you call that premium price 'milking'. At £470, the 980 is already pricey for a 28nm card that is using less components than the previous cards.

It's all highly subjective, if you think the prices the fair and the next person does not. It's not something people can agree on. My opinion is that if an 8GB 980 did ever see the light of day it could have a very high premium. Each to their own.

Clearly the 970 is the bang for buck card from Nvidia, the 980 is already at a premium..

I'll ignore you're little 'rolleyes' as ** I won't be rude or insulting **

Take it easy :)

I quote:

"New R9 290X 8GB cards"
"A raft of new cards have just appeared."

Date: 21st November 2014.

I just wanted to highlight the hypocrisy really because I know for a fact that the AMD fanboys won't be critical of AMD when they milk consumers themselves.

I will!!! I'm not a full fledged AMD fanboy but i've had more problems with nVidia than AMD to put me off them and the price difference. So Iv'e ended up liking AMD a lot more because of that.
IMHO iv'e found AMD to be the better option for me most of the time mainly because of the price and performance they offer and i've had no problems with them just a couple of driver problems that's it.
But if AMD start charging premium prices just like nVidia and i mean where they charge more than their equally competitive cards then i will start being critical, and have a B**** FIT

edit -
Just realised what you meant by milking lol.
Yea i do see what you mean, introducing 8gb 290x cards but i think it was saphire that did that and they ended up being very popular and sold out without producing anymore untill now since AMD gave the greenlight.

I think Nvidia do exactly the same thing with thier cards, they have a memory chip shortage as of now so they havn't given the green light so i guess they will eventually i wouldn't call this milking more supply and demand?
