AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Backed off my overclock to 3.5GHz as I don't know what I'm doing! Haven't owned an AMD system since the mighty Athlon XP 3200+ :) Currently running at stock volts (1.35) and everything on auto, bar the 250 fsb and memory speed. C&Q is on so too

Going to prime it now for a few hours (I was running some Linx hence the max temps in HWmoinitor) and report back. What do the TMPIN0, 1 and 2 mean? And what about them volts in the -12v and -5v readouts?

What volts/temps are you running Martini1991?

That's after 2 hours BFBC2 and a short run of Prime95.

6870 is at 975/1150.

Next things to try: Tightening RAM settings, increase NB (however the next jump is 2750Mhz!)

Hi guys :D

Its been bloody ages since I posted in this thread. Used to practically live in here. Hope you are all well.

I just got myself an X6 1090T. Couldn't resist the sale price the other day. Have shoved it in ... so time to get overclocking!

I am currently doing my first proper prime run (for what I hope will be a stable setting). The settings are:

Vcore: 1.375
3.8 GHz (200 x 19)
NB: 2000
NB v: 1.2v
Loadline: 19%
RAM: 1600
Terbo Core: Disabled
C1E: Disabled
Cool'n'Quiet: Enabled
ACC: Disabled

Does that look all right? Is there anything else I should be doing for x6?

My load temps are hitting 53/54*C which I am pretty disappointed with, looks like I don't have much headroom to increase the voltage for more speed. I know that temps will jump quite a bit once I go for more cpunb. I guess that is more important than getting up to 4GHz though... ;)

buchtis, max safe volts on a Phenom chip are around the 1.55V mark, try upping yours a little more to get more clck ;)

*edit* just noticed the 8Gb ram, are all your ram slots filled? you might need to take some out, or try boosting volts to the northbridge

Shouldln't C&C be disabled when overclocking your chip?

C&Q could cause stability issues, could being the key word. If you can get an overclock that you're happy with, and can get it stable with c&q on then I'd say go for it!

The X6's seem much happier being OC'd with it enabled than the other AMD CPU's.

My 1090T was fine with it on, however my 965, 720, and 450's hated it with a passion.

I might try with C'n'C turned off and see what happens. My 555 unlocked to quad never had a problem with C'n'C but I guess it seems to vary from chip to chip.

My worry is that turning it off would affect my idle temps (and therefore noise).

Anyway I have 3.8 stable (will post a screen shot) so thats good. Am waiting for my AS5 to cure before I try OCing the NB. Hopefully temps will drop a bit.

What is the situation with Turbo Core? I always assumed it was useless for overclockers since if you can get 2 cores to clock up to 3.6Ghz or whatever then you might as well have all your cores going that high.

But I have noticed (when trying for 4GHz) that it is my 6th core which is always failing. Perhaps I could leave my OC at 3.8 and then just have a couple of cores clock up to 4 when necessary? Is that possible? Or does turbo screw everything up?

I had to turn turbo core off while I was doing a 4GHz run (forgot about it tbh :p) and the CPU was trying for 4.4GHz or some such! Backed it off the 3.5 on stock volts for now, Turbo off, not enough hours. Recent X6s seem to be clocking demons

My mate was so impressed with video encode performance he wants one now, coming from an E2160 Core 2 @ 1.8GHz should be a massive upgrade!

I certainly seem to be getting good results with reasonably low volts. But it is just kicking out too much heat for my Baram.
I dont think I am going to be able to reach the limits of my chip without a cooling upgrade. I'm going to try changing the fan to
pull rather than push. Apparently this is a better set up. That might give me a bit more thermal head room. I might try playing
around with the turbo boost though. If one core is holding me back it would at least be nice to get a couple of cores up to 4 or beyond.
