AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Most C3 steppings will hit 4GHz on Stock volts.

I know mine did :p

My first move would just be to whack the multi up to 20 and see what happens :p

Half the stuff you say is crap, and the most C3 steppings hitting 4GHZ on stock volts is more of it.

Whats default volts, 1.3?

Depends chip to chip, core temp will tell you the chips CPU VID which is its default voltage.

Thats some pretty impressive voltages. What cooling is that and is it a proper b55 or an unlocked x2?

Hi, it's an unlocked x2 555, vid is 1.275V. I'm using a thermalright TRUE with two noctua fans, very quiet under 1000rpm. It's all inside an old xaser 3 case that I've modded with 120mm fans, if you google image search 'vrm r2' my computer is the second image:D

Has anyone tried unlocking the Phenom II X2 550BE cores on a Asus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard with succuss??

I've tried, but it freezes when running Windows Experience Index :(

Or, could this mean that I have an unlucky 550BE cpu? If so, would be worthy to upgrade to a 965BE??

After more testing with unlocked Phenom II X2 550BE, it seems apparent that I do have 2 unstable cores :(.
I was aware that unlocking the 550BE is a hit and miss, but it did seem to work but only for a few minates until the PC freezes. Nevermind, its was worth a try though.

Thanks for those who replied. Is there any reason why I should get the 955BE and not the 965BE or higher??

Thanks

only the cost of the higher chips, why spend more for a 3.4Ghz chip when the 955 will easily do 4Ghz for only about a minute spent fiddling in the bios

the 965 is essentially then 955 with a slightly higher Multiplier :p, as the 955 comes with an unlocked multi, you can easily change it in the bios :)

Thanks Seraph :D

I brought aAsus M3A79-T Deluxe motherboard secondhand for £55 which I thought was a bargin, considering that these mobo were around £170 new.

Reason for purchase hoping that I be able to unlock my 550BE without upgrading the CPU, now it seems that I have to as the 550BE is showing it's age.

My old 945 that I sold for £70 on the bay:

My new 955 that I bought from the river place for £60:

Running it at 4.3 though, temps rocketed up to 65c when running prime.

Isn't the safe limit on these 1.5 max? At least that's what I thought they want you to go to...

Cheers though, couldn't believe how lucky I got for £60, if I had watercooling this would sit on 4.5.
