AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

My 24/7 clock. Have retreated from 3.79 to 3.74GHz. Lowered vcore down to 1.45 instead of 1.485 (in BIOS). Temps are 3/4 deg lower.

C&Q on.

Hopefully this should be summer proof. Fingers crossed.

just stick a heater on in your PC's room to double check its 'summer proof' mate ;)
Mine goes to about 48Degrees C during normal room temps - with heater's etc on and a toasty room - temps hit 51Degrees max - so should be ok for summer time (fingers x'd)

if i set the multiplier via the BIOS to 17.5 (3.5Ghz) and when i switch it on and check CPU-Z and i see that the Multiplier doesnt stay at 17.5 but moves around sometimes at 17.5 but did go back down to x4 and to x10.5 what does that mean? how do i get it to stick at that multiplier?

That's just Cool and Quiet doing it's magic, it cuts the multi and voltage when the CPU isn't under load to save power usage and make less heat. The max speed will still be 3.5ghz.

Apparantly it can make your OC unstable anyway, so I always used to just shut it off.

I'm not going to be overclocking any more, I managed to get 3.8ghz stable, and a couple of suicide runs at 4.040ghz, but I'd rather run stock with C&Q now, I never use it for anything very taxing and when you think about it, 3.8ghz over 3.4ghz is only like a 12% increase, not like a 75%+ increase you can get from an i7.

ah okay, so when gaming and everything it will still hit 17.5 should it need to?
would it be best to turn this off for a bit to do some stress testing or just run Prime?

Just run prime I say, I say "apparantly" it can make your OC unstable, but it never made mine unstable. (Not that I tested it for very long, I suddenly thought, if I'm trying to get it stable with C&Q, why not just put it back to stock).

I'd try to get it stable with though if I were you.

Nice low volts bradmax. Thats a good chip. My 555 seems to be the worst one around! :)

Muel - I use cool'n'quiet fine with my overclock. Never had any problems. I reckon its ideal to have it on when OCing because you save your big boost for when you need it most but the rest of the time you are running on nice low voltages. Should preserve the chip's life (if your OC requires high volts) and keeps idle / partial load temps down.

I've left my brothers X2 550 BE at:

FSB: 200
CPU: Multi 17.5 = 3.5Ghz @ 1.325V (Passed a few hours at 1.3125V, but for safety added a few more)
Memory: 1066Mhz @ 2.1V @ 5-6-6-16-22
HT: 2.2Ghz @ Stock V
CPU-NB: 2.4Ghz @ 1.15V IIRC

He needs a better cooler than the stock fan to hit 4.
