AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

burtieb1, what temp readings are you getting for max CPU load under HWMonitor . . . the last screenie you posted showed a max CoreTemp of 59°C . . .when you say "Stock Volts" does that mean the vCore is on [Auto] or you manually set it to match the processor VID? . . . . Asus Crosshair III Formula + Corsair H50 nice! :) . . . when the chip is loaded what vCore reading do you see in CPU-z? . . . does it change or move about?
 
Big.Wayne, phenoms doesn't have core sensors. even core temp site

The K10 reports a temperature value that is relative to a certain predefined value, it doesn't report the actual processor temperature! So take that into consideration

also the email from amd must be right because its from they tech support guys

this is why on some cpu/motherboard the "core temp" is a lot lower than the "cpu temp" which is impossible

Max temp was 47 using HWMonitor. Yes everything is at auto, no I've not touched anything other than the multiplier. The vcore stays at 1.4 and does not move in cpu-z.

Gareth: While I am not specifically disagreeing with you I think its important were careful on what we say is "fact" and what we say is "I believe its true" . . . I do use both CoreTemp and Hardware monitor and there is a difference between the readings (HWMonitor is higher sometimes) but CoreTemp does a reasonable job? perhaps the Propus die is different from the Deneb die? . . . It's confusing reading the CoreTemp webpage here

"AMD chips report the temperature by a special register in the CPU's NB. Core Temp reads that register and uses a formula provided by AMD to calculate the current temperature"

How does that work then? :D . . . it uses a "formula" to calculate the temp?
 
Hey burtieb1, so that does seem quite warm then @ 3.6GHz and the vCore is fixed at 1.400 and you have pretty decent cooling? . . . Hmmm so can you arrange a screenie or detail the exact temps you are seeing in Hardware Monitor & CoreTemp? . . . are you saying CoreTemp is showing higher temps than Hardware Monitor?
 
Big.Wayne. explain i had 720 awhile ago which the core temp was ~15C below the cpu temp which is impossible.. now when i upgraded to a 965 core temp is ~8C over the cpu temp...

i'm seen many people have this with different models....

these cpus don't have cpu nb temp sensor i thought.

burtieb1, have you tried closing Hardware Monitor and re-opening it? . . . I found that sometimes it doesn't pick up all the sensors . . . . closing it and running it again sometimes makes a few new temps appear? . . . you seem to be missing TMPIN1 :)
 
Yes I've just tried that and It's still the same, I might have another go at the heatsink later re-seat It again. Maybe I've just got an unlucky chip.

kellaway225, the whole thread is Deneb processors? . . . .ever single person posting results in this thread are using "almost" identical chips and even though people are using different motherboards the settings are the same (albeit some with different names in BIOS) . . . what ever processor speed you want just divide the figure by 200 and then set the processor multi to the nearest match i.e 3500 divide by 200 = 17.5 . . . all you need to do is set the CPU multi and set the vCore, thats it, two settings, the vCore will vary from chip to chip but say you start at 1.35vCore and then slowly nudge it upwards until you find stabilty! . . . . if you look at peoples screenshots you should be able to see the vCore figure showing in CPU-z, this should be close to what you will need if you want to match the same speed . . just keep an eye on temps and get cracking! :cool:

i meant how they all seem to either use tools i cant such as AMD OverDrive or use BIOS and i thought with different cases, motherboards and everything i couldnt exactly go see what someone has used and use exactly the same. i know to up the multiplier to 17 or 17.5 for 3.5Ghz but i am unsure about voltages or anything i hear that its best to set the voltages and everything to specific numbers but i dont know what these should be to get a safe overclock (dont melt, dont BSOD)

Same vid Deneb's seem to react the same.
I've recently seen a kid with a 1.35v 965..

Low vid and overclockability seems to have a positive correleation with deneb.
He booted windows 4GHZ at 1.35v lol.
 
kellaway225, as mentioned to you before can you please read the "Welcome Post" and preferably the whole thread . . .I've asked you politely not to keep quoting me but you do it anyway? (post #1411) . . I've asked you to the thread and understand the overclocking process a bit better before jumping in and you don't appear to have read very much at all? . . . the questions and answers you seek have already appeared again and again in this thread . . . . It would be great if you could make a little more effort, its very simple really, just leave all voltages on [Auto] except vCore, turn vCore up until you get stability? . . . how can you have missed this info? :confused:
 
gareth170: I've tried everest the temps are the same as hwmonitor and speedfan, core temp is 8c higher.

A little fed up as I was hoping for a good oc with this lot. 3.6 will have to do:mad:
 
Well I was just going to make a post about possibly achieving a stable system at 3700MHz but after 7+ hours of prime I just got a BSOD :(

550BE and asus m4a785td v evo.

I put every thing back to auto in the bios and just changed the multiplier to 18.5 and just kept upping the vcore untill it was stable (I thought)

So do you think just another single bump to the vcore will get it perfectly stable or should I now look at fiddling with some other settings like NB frequency or voltage as the vcore is getting quite high now.
Its at 1.43750?

Temps were looking ok with the CPU never going above 41c

I also get a different core temp to the CPU temp?
In AMD overdrive my core temp is always lower than my CPU temp. at idle its around 10c difference and under load it goes to about 5c difference.
Asus pc probe doesn't show core temps only CPU temps and that matches up with the reading I get from overdrive.
