AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

I bought an overclocked bundle that included the 95W 1055T chip. The motherboard caught fire so I RMA'd it, but as it was an OC'd bundle I had to return the whole bundle. So this is why I returned the chip.

As it was clearly burnt they replaced the motherboard, since it was an OC'd bundle they had to re-overclock it.

When I got it back I didn't think to check the model number on the CPU but I did notice a bit of TIM on he side of the CPU that matched the cooler of what I used when I first installed the CPU. I thought I cleaned it off the top but could've just the bit on the side. Or it could've been the TIM they used when re-overclcoking/testing.

Does that clear it up?
 
I'd guess Arctic Silver products are most often used by OCUK staff as its what they sell the most of, and what they include in bundles etc, therefore silver TIM material ;)
 
Very angry now, still awaiting my correct 95w 1055T from OCUK after then sent me a 125w version in a bundle, by accident :( I've even had to pay the postage to get the incorrect CPU sent back to OCUK :mad:

A working 125w CPU is better than an empty AM3 socket :rolleyes:

On a more positive note, I will be using a Corsair a50 cooler. Am I correct in the following

1. Spread a little of my Arctic mx-4 paste onto the base of the HSF, making sure its spread nicely into the gaps where the heatpipes are?

2. One pea size blob of mx-4 will suffice, and then 'plonk' the HSF on top, letting it push out the mx-4 in a circular area onto the top of the CPU

3. Don't use any auto options on the bios, its a gigabyte mobo, as per the OCUK bundle, and I should use manual settings in bios, and consider some tweaking with AMD Overdrive?

Edit: Misread.

Also I'd do all the overclocking in the Bios and not even insrall Overdrive. Thats just me though, I'm old school. First thing I'd do is lock every value at it's stock setting, (take everything off auto), then begin fettling.
 
Its H50 no a50 :)

I use AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition. Same cooler H50. But I added for another fan. I get a nice cooling :) My temp was down so much, I was like hell yea baby. Radiator is in the middle and fans are attached front and back. Air is going out.
I could only overclock up to 3.8 Ghz from 3.4. Not bad :D After overclock, idle is around 31 or 32. On gaming, its 42

My bundle was indeed overclocked, but OCUk sent me the wrong CPU, a 125w version instead of the 95w. When I eventually get the correct CPU sent back to me (out of stock now) :( I will be overclocking it myself when it arrives, hence the questions.

I don't like using auto settings, unless others report that they work fine, I'd prefer manual settings. Makes things easier to tweak if the system isn't stable!

CPU Vcore is jumping around a bit ranging from 1.36 to 1.312 :eek: but its still stable.
 
Hey Guys,

I have just got an Asus Crosshair IV Formula and I am wanting to overclock now.

I have some basic knowledge like increasing the multiplier and FSB and when I do that it increases it to a desired frequency, but when I try and increase the voltage I do not know which one to change or what to change them to. So, say I want to reach 4GHz, I increase the multi to 20 with the FSB at default or increase the FSB to 237 with the multi at 17, but which setting do I change to increase the voltage?

Here is a picture of what I am on about. It is my 965BE at stock:

What speed is your ram cause if you up the "fsb" then you will have to lower the ram ratio.

At first that's what I thought but when I try and increase it it just goes up like 0.070000. Is there any setting were I can manually add what voltage I want or will I just have to figure out how to work it by increasing it like I said?

Have you tried changing the mode from offset?

Looks like you have your ram timings slightly out too?
 
I can get you 4GHZ guaranteed.
Follow this settings

CPU Ratio - 12.5
CPU BUS Speed - 320
DRAM Frequency - 1280
CPU N/B Frequency - 2560
HT link Frequency - 1920

Extreme OV - Enabled
CPU and NB voltage Mode - Manual
CPU Vcore - 1.5125v
CPU NB - 1.35v
DRAM - Whatever your default is for that RAM
HT - 1.225v
NB - 1.3v

Then set load line calibration to enabled on both CPU and CPU NB.

Yes, I changes it to the only other setting which is manual and I could only increase it by 0.070000 or something like that.

How do I change them?

I know they are meant to be 7-8-7-24 but I am not sure which setting in the BIOS to change because there are so many :p
