AMD R9 290 (Non-X, Pro, etc) Owners Club

Right so need a heads up on what people use to OC and what the limits are on voltage etc. Mine is a Tri-X OC so comes out the box at 1000/1350. I put the core to 1100 without touching voltage and it was rock solid. Overall though my Heaven score is quite a bit down on my 780 (1400 vs 1640 ish) though I do have some more overclocking to do on the 290 still and I'm not expecting to beat the Heaven score but it gives me a point of reference to compare to. That 780 score was a bit of a suicide run anyway and not representative of 24/7 clocks. 24/7 clocks in Heaven gave me about 1550 score.

Currently using Trixx but it doesn't have Rivatuner so not got the OSD or background monitoring. Does AB work with the Tri-X and give full voltage control? Obviously I can use GPU-Z to monitor but that would just be something else to have open and I don't see the point.

Temps at 1100/1350 were dead low like 65c so definitely have some room. How much can I raise to voltage to relatively safely?

I questioned the Heaven score too and the best I got was it favours NVIDIA cards, although I got no evidence as to why. I can also run 1100/1400 on the Tri-X at stock.

Use MSI AB Rusty, im not an Overclocker to be honest, i like my cards to work out the box on their default settings and let Mantle do the talking for me ;) although i have tinkered with AB for benching my old Ref 290, im pretty sure thats got all you need to do what you need.

I remember someone once saying something about disabling UPLS or something like that? no clue if that means anything or even does anything though.

Use 3DMark instead of Heaven if you want to compare your nvidia and amd cards.
On Heaven my 780 was similar to my 7990, but in everything else it wasn't even close.

I also use AB but I dont overclock I just lower the voltage down. MSI card come with a very high voltage to cater for the 3 different gaming profiles.

Default is +13, I run -31 @977/1250

ULPS is just for Crossfire, it stops the 2nd GPU going to sleep and increases performance.

Where is the R7 260X owners club? :p

Does anyone know if you get proper voltage control with the Tri-X with MSI AB? Thinking it may be a bit wonky as the Tri-X isn't a reference board AFAIK.

Looks like i'll have a twin card tomorrow :o

Goods Shipped:
£274.99 x 1 - Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-04-40G)
£0.00 x 1 - AMD Radeon GOLD Reward Ticket (Emailed)

Just hope that the proximity to the other card isn't an issue for the cooler to be effective. Far as I'm aware the back plate on the vapour x doesn't really get hot as there's no ram or anything on it so here's hoping.

Still waiting for RMA details and getting withdrawal symptoms. I've also got a new 29" LG coming tomorrow and want to test this too.

If I wanted to try and stabilise my card, would it be worth trying +100mv & a slightly more aggressive fan profile? Could this black screen & coloured squares happen due to VRM temps?

Probably just faulty vram, but you could try a voltage bump.
