with the release of the new gtx970/980 how are they going to compete, i have always preferred ati/amd because of the price to proformance ratio but the new gtx 970 seems to throw a big spanner in amd works!
i was thinking about buying a second r9 290x for my system but now i think i will get 2xgtx 970`s instead especially since i would save 200watts of power and wouldn't have to buy a new psu.

They have been price dropped by OCUK already? I am pretty sure Gibbo confirmed that there wont be much more price drops involved.

I mean a 290x is already at 310, how much lower than it go before its breaking even at best?

People would be crazy to pick a £300+ 290X over a £260 970.

If AMD want to keep selling the 290X competitively, they have to do something.

incoming price drop as i said last week :D

I'm not sure AMD can or will want to do much more on the existing cards, the 290X is already in AMD's prefered position of cheaper and not as good - the clue is the fact that AMD already dropped prices a week ago hoping some people would jump on the price drop instead of waiting for the 9**'s

Ati are gone :p
Amd how ever am sure will have something planned. They seemed very convenient in this game24 showcase etc

I guess we hear more very soon. How ever, the 970 is priced very well from nvidia. You be silly really to move from a 290 to 970.

It would make more sense coming from 7000 series or 600 series.
Personally I wouldn't bother and wait for what's coming next year with hopefully 20nm would be the perfect time for high end upgrade.

I mean seriously coming from 290x or 780ti to 980 do you honestly believe you would feel a difference in gaming? Ignore benchmarks

On a serious note, I hope AMD do come out with something. As much as I prefer Team Green, we still need both to be competing for our hard earned money. Come on AMD, bring it!!!

Double up everything in the Tonga 285 core and lower the clocks a little sorted.

Stream Processors = 3584
ROPs = 64
Bus = 512bit
VRAM = 8gb

Should be doable as Tonga is quite efficient and would be a total beast at any resolution including 4K.

no ATI force of habit! :) i almost hit the buy button on the discounted r9 290x last week to add a second 290x to my system glad i didn't, this new release from nvidia has upset my plans, seems to me the best thing to do is sell my card and buy 2x970 gtx for my new 4k monitor im planing to get after Christmas. + im pretty sure my 850w psu isn't going to power two overclocked 290x and overclocked cpu comfortably.

AMD will need to come up with something VERY good to match/beat NV or people will be going green.

Price isn't everything but it does help. :p

I'm expecting a large "leak" in the coming week/s. ;)

IMHO they will simply start hyping Pirate Islands and go with price cuts until then.
