And here we are, almost two months after I told that AMD will introduce a new naming to their graphics cards segment, we may finally be looking at the actual scheme for the new models.

Was hoping they were going to recycle the X nomenclature. Can't have enough Xs and Ts in your card names, combinations of the two even more so. X1990XTXTXTXT could have been their new dual GPU flagship card :(

So by that naming convention, the 7850 will be replaced by the R9 280 and will have the same core as the 7970 :D That's a nice boost for the midrange when they show then, will be nice to see where the top tier lies.

Not so big on the naming though.

Am I the only one who looks at that table, the naming convention and thinks "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BUNCH OF TOSH?!"

Makes zero sense.

Indeed.

I've seen it suggested elsewhere that the 290 is actually a dual GPU card and the 290X is a placeholder for an ultra single core type card :S so all very confusing.

Yea, but I doubt the 7950/7970 rebadge would replace the initial price point of 7790 at £120 and 7850 2GB at £150-£160. I bet the 7950 rebadge would be at least £150, and the 7970 rebadge would be at least £170-£190, much like the 7850 2GB and 7870 2GB back then.

I'm guessing the Hawaii LE would be between £250-£280, Hawaii Pro would be £330-£350, Hawaii XT would be £420-£450.

That's a very good guess and does make sense. I'm hoping their a little lower then that though? I might buy one if they're priced sensibly? Still a guessing game at this point still?

I hate the new naming too. Its just going to confuse everyone.

That is probably the point, just like renaming the damn old cards is..

They should just make cards be number 1, 2, 3, and those in between 1,1 1,2 1,3 and so on ;D

Based on performance of course.

Then we could compair a Radeon 12 to Geforce 12 and make the choice, instead of a GTX680 to a HD7970 :p

hum?
680=770 same but seems new explain how that is "clear" naming from Nvidia?
confuse the hell out of me.

Re-naming is common and people who buys asks the seller who then sells the best deal for them normally. Business as usual.

Anyone else shocked at the lack of spec 'leaks' prior to launch. It's only a couple of weeks now isn't it?
