AMD ramps up its Gaming Evolved program

Not hating on AMD - but this may be an exercise to put out anything positive they can.

The company was downgraded again yesterday after already having a week or so of rough times since the earnings conference and its looking likely that monday will be a very black day for their share value - even the directors are running scared.

Probably gonna be a lot of denial in this part of the forum but the company is in a very very rocky position.

:(

I know nothing about it, all i do know is that if there is only one gpu supplier then everyone will suffer.

The whole PC industry is having a tough time, lets not turn this thread into dooms day calling.

I have been over this a few times in the CPU room thread, which is specifically for that deduction, its not going to happen, AMD are tackling it head on just like Nvidia and Intel are tackling the same problems. Lets not expand that circular discussion into this thread as well.

Intel have also been down graded some weeks ago...

Intel are in a very different situation to AMD - its not very useful to draw parallels there - also most of what I said in the other thread was drawn from and/or backed up in the very link that you provided - hence why I just gave up replying to you - I'm not saying AMD will fold or being sensationalist - look at the statements posted in the last 24 hours regarding the state of business at AMD - they badly needs some positive press this monday.

The whole PC industry may be having a bad time but intel and nVidia, etc. are weathering it and in a far better position than AMD - things that aren't good for them but they can shrug off can very realistically finish AMD (and I'm not wishing for this at all).

I'm on Market Watch every day, i know whats going on, my discussions and links on it are in the correct thread in the CPU room.

I think Game developers are more equal handed now than they have ever been. Future Games are most definetly going to be using more Compute from looking at things, it looks to be the norm in most major Game engines since 2011.

AMD just needs some of the HPC Market from nvidia and Intel, I see that happening already and its also why we see AMD stating that they are going to push more in software than before.

Should the worst happen I'd be very very suprised if the GPU arm wasn't aquired by someone - theres quite a few parties that would be interested.

Now that the denial didn't happen lets get back to where we were as i have read plenty of threads about AMDs money/stock issues already.

I think its all blown out of proportion, AMD is not going anywhere anytime soon. All AMD needs is a smaller node for their APU`s and thats coming in 2013 - People forget that AMD is on 40nm/32nm vs 22nm (that will soon change). Intel will slowly lose its dominance in smaller nodes in the coming years.

There will be plenty of time to buy and sell before the next gen :) plus I think AMD may attack on the lower/middle end first as they need more mobile market from mighty nvidia.

Its possible If they are delaying it :D

AMD are going knowhere anytime soon, remember they've been knocking out those pesky console gpu's and they'll be knocking out the next gen EggBox gpu's too, pretty lucrative deal imo.

I see this branded a lot, but if they've got 2 consoles deals at this present moment ; 360 and Wii and they're getting situations where doubts are upon them (Although most are sensationalist) then I don't understand how people can use upcoming console deals as them not going anywhere.

Not that I think they're on the verge of collapse or anything. I just don't understand the logic of mentioning upcoming deals of which they essentially have now.

That said, I think they'll be quite a boom of AMD laptops, as I can readily see them available which I'm over the moon with.

It depends on when theyll be getting paid for those deals on any upcoming consoles, all depends on the contract. I don't think its likely to be the majority upfront, unless anyone knows different. How was the supply of previous chips set up?

The problem is the short term of the company not the long term which seems to be the point a lot of people can't see. Their investors, backers, partners, etc. are getting cold feet and given them a shot across the bows. A lot of people who matter don't have confidence in the management of the company and its vision for the future and this has been reflected in the share price over the last couple of weeks. This also puts the squeeze on them in an already difficult time as this will affect what they can borrow, etc. and they need cash to not only pay off debts, fund current operations but also to effectively invest in future developments. Despite what some people will try and tell you their current situation means they can only just about cover this over the next few months and if someone decides to upset the applecart theres a very real chance of the company collapsing despite having a reasonably good longterm outlook.

To borrow someone elses quote and put it into a wider context its about people with an interest in AMD being “less concerned about keeping AMD alive and more concerned with keeping themselves alive” and may pull the rug from under them rather than take the risk of going out of business themselves.

EDIT: The long and short of it is people with a stake in the company want to see them coming out with something about how they are going to lead the industry and stimulate growth not the current statements which boil down to how they are going to follow the industry in order to survive and cost cutting measures.
