AMD RDNA 4 thread

Had a HD5850, solid GPU. Had 2 7950 in crossfire.. that was a mistake specially when I could only pair them with a FX8350(although at 5,1ghz) because my i7 920 died. Room was a bloody furnace and performance was lacking a lot :p but that wasn't the GPUs fault hehe. Girlfriend always stayed away from my cave due to the heat :D.
I had two 7970 GHz that nearly gave me heatstroke a few times

i had 2 7990's in crossfire. think i needed a 1500w psu but I didn't need to put the heating on during the winter.

MY 7990 I loved to hate, that card ran like a furnace despite amd's claims that "they cherry picked the best of the low voltage 7970 cores", and they even had a video claiming that the cooler made it run cool and quiet. Mine routinely hit upwards of 95c plus with the fans howling. And that seemed to be the general user experience with those cards, unless you undervolted the crap out of it the card just ran hot.

I often think that the cherry picking of low voltage cores was a short term thing, they didn't have enough and started using any 7970 core they could to build the cards. How do you go from all this "whisper quiet" spiel to the equivalent of a vacuum cleaner in your case?

My vega 64 even with aggressive undervolting sounded like a jumbo jet taking off. I still think the QA department had shares in noise cancelling headphone manufacturers.

It seems we've hit a point where we have as much rasterization as we can use. May be a period of pushing that performance further down the stack, not too much need for it at the top end and the high end is never the volume seller.
So best we can expect is a hyper efficient 7900XTX rebadged as a 8700XT?

They have done it before, AMD bowed out of the high end a few years ago, the RX 480 / 580.

One cannot sustain 8 different GPU tiers consisting of multiple die sizes and PCB designs with a market share of 15%, and above $500 people default to Nvidia.

I would rather they concentrate on the mainstream, instead of spreading themselves too thin. Also they simply have more chance of getting mainstream cards into prebuilt laptops, desktops, etc which is what they need to be concentrating on.

You may disagree but i really like the 7800XT, i know its no better than the 6800XT, really. but i think its a very good GPU and well priced at $500.

Its a much better GPU than the 4070, that's for sure... and with AIB coolers they all seem to clock high, gaining 15 to 20% in real terms performance to put them up with the 4070Ti, an £800 GPU.

Great cards....

IMHO the RX 7900 GRE is the unsung hero of the crop, you get RX6950XT performance at a much lower TDP.

Not settling until I can get 7900XT level performance and specs for under £500. I've a feeling i'm going to be waiting a long while, but I'm not going to budge on that. Like my AM4 system, I'm going to sit on my 6700XT and see what can be done with upscaling tech.

depends what markets as some amd sells 50%

rdna4 will be interesting though

I have an hunch that AMD's market share could see a sizeable jump in market share over the next few months judging by the anecdotal reports coming out of China.

I doubt it. Every AMD GPU launch since 2015 has been underwhelming, sure RDNA has gone a long way to fix AMD's woeful performance per watt issue during the Vega days but performance just hasn't been there and they never push the envelope in terms of how much silicon we get for a £ notes.
