AMD Risen 9950x3d

you do realise were talking about the 9950x3d the 16 core not hte 9800/9850x3d 8 core cpu here?
these are 16 cores
a quick google suggests north of 200w under max loaded conditions which seems about right tdp is quoted as 170w according to the published specs

That’s full system load ie hitting RAM, drives and probably with some overclocking, but a modest heat sink and fan or 120.1 cooler is more than enough to keep any AM5 chip happy. They aren’t hot running chips and water cooling isn’t required at all.

im using a peerless so i know that is fine lol never goes much above 60 even on stress tests
she uses far more power though im not overclocked im at stock with expo enabled shes hitting more than 200w and thats not the whole system my gpu can pull 348 by itself lol
my drives probably use more than that [obvious joke but i do have a fair amount of data storage]
my 5800x pulled 140w in a stress test a couple of days ago [which weve now put into a 95w limit because thats in an itx build as well]
i can pull close to 650/700w at the wall plug with my system flat out

You replied to a conversation and the context was how a 16 core AM5 chips needs water cooling. lol. A 5800X doesn’t need 140watts of cooling. lol.

that I absolutely agree with i have a 5800x in a mini itx build [literally just put windows on it yesterday lol] with a peerless assassin and a asus dual 4070 in a very small case
cpu is cooled by a thermal right peerless assassin 120 digital and that is a bit warmer than id really like but not concerning well within acceptable limits even on a stress test.
I am typing this on my 9950x3d with the same cooler and shes sat at 43 degrees according to the little screen on the side of the cooler
it never goes above 70 my 9950x3d even on a stress test brief peaks so yeas absolutely and id do it again with the peerless assassin on the zen6 cpus come around
i also used a noctua ndh15 on the 5900x set up i had until a couple of months ago again was absolutely fine i had temperatures not far off the average aio tbh
so yes absolutely 100% agree a reasonably decent air cooler in a reasonably decent airflow case will be absolutely fine on a 9950x3d
