What, just what? a absolutely huge number of companies as STANDARD will take 4-6 weeks to replace anything at all. The better companies will replace stuff very quickly but if theres nothing in stock won't simply send you a spare cpu to use in the meantime. I can count the number of companies that would send you a completely different part to use in the meantime on one hand. Jesus, and this is a reason to post a anti AMD thread.
If this happened to me I would have(well if i had to post a thread about everything that ever happened to me) posted a thread to say what fantastic service I'd had from AMD.
Seriously, OCZ come close, if you get a crappy clocking pair of mem sticks they will often replace them and have seemingly tried their best to make sure people who get faulty sticks get an extra good clocking set back aswell as very quick RMA turn around. Crucial are pretty fast with RMA's but nothing special, you do realise that 99% of shops had you rma'd the chip, and 99% of other companies would have left you without any chip at all for the last , however long its been. So you've gotten better service than you would have with most other companies in the world yet still chose to complain?
Dates of stocks of anything coming in, to any company, store, anything, worldwide are always flexible and never 100% accurate. Personally the mistake is more you taking it literally, when in an industry chips not being shipped, mistakes being made, pick up being 20 mins late can all result in delays and is accepted. The only time I get miffed at these things is when someone specifically say they HAVE stock, and it turns out they don't.
Now the one thing I could say is I'm not 100% sure what the opto 1218 is as I've not kept up on the naming convention, is it a quad core, dual core, or what speed it is. Even if its "only" a dual core, its still 2 cores better than any store/most companies would provide you with. Even without the replacement chip it sounds like a fairly standard RMA industry wide, with a replacement chip it becomes a story of a fantastic company going the extra mile when most don't.
