No it isn't its smaller than the GTX.

Whys is it so hard to grasp that the huge card is the OEM version which is for system builders like Dell etc... if your buying a Dell PC then thats the card you are going to get in it if you get a Dell with an R600, if you already have a PC and are just buying a new graphics card, then you will be buying the retail R600 which these guys and everywhere else will be selling which is actually smaller than the ******* GTX!!!

ok only if you want the oem versions
u do know that the retial version is only 9.5" which is the ones that we get so its smaller than a 8800gtx so haha to nvidia

R600 family has independent video processor

Last night, AMD announced that its upcoming R600 graphics processor family will feature dedicated universal video decoding hardware that works alongside Avivo.

Traditionally, even if the graphics card capable of decoding video, the video processing done by it will only amount to 50% of the work – the rest is picked up by the CPU.

With AMD’s R600 family, the company’s engineers have designed a product that can almost completely negate the CPU in all video processing: colour, scaling and playback of common codecs will be handled by the GPU.

The problem with the Radeon R5xx line is that only the top end GPUs have enough horsepower to do 1080p. With the universal video decoding engine (UVD) now being separate from the 3D engine, means even the most basic R6xx is capable of handling full 1080p High-Definition playback.

AMD has also integrated an audio controller on its low and mid-range RV6xx range of graphics cards, as the GPUs natively support HDMI.

Since HDMI carries both video and audio streams over one cable, you might want to take advantage of this, especially in HTPCs. With an internal audio controller, this means the entire sound loop back process doesn’t require external cables and is synced up using graphics software before the frames are sent out.

This is a far superior way of doing things for two reasons: 1) no messy cables going out from your sound card, back in your case on your video card and 2) sync issues. Since graphics can take longer to process than audio, especially if you’re upscaling or doing a lot of post processing effects. Thus, you want the software to manage the audio and sync it with the processed video before it hits your screen.

This audio syncing technology isn’t wholly new; it’s essentially the same as we’ve previously seen in the AMD 690G intergrated graphics chipset last month.

Just sounds better and better ;) It does seem better that theres more pics/and comments and info going about am sure ATI know with every day that passes thats a 8800 series card being slotted into someones PCi express port..... and thats big money being lost to ATI.

The post was too funny especially drak3 comment afterwards ;) I think ATI took a massive hit once those giant R600 pics released but dont blame anyone for still beliving or thinking its gonna be that big. Its not like AMD will do a paper launch, after saying only hard launches to stock soon....hopefully once ATI unveil to the world there R600 a lot of people will be sighing or a lot of 8800 cards will end up on the For Sales forums ;)

Apparently fanboys fear reading, they see a pic and hurridly type a sarky response to the thread without having even half a clue what theyre on about. :(

Wonder how much juice this things gonna suck up and if a shuttle psu could handle it.

Sounds pretty good - am seriously thinking in the summer i will make two upgrades - a dual core cpu and a nice gpu - this might just be the ticket.

Problem is my 500w enermax won't do the job powering it all :(

Why not? 500W is plenty.

As above will be plenty, the R600 is a 65nm process, so its going to use less power than the 8 series, and the GTS runs on 450 watters so 500w will be ample (haha ample :D ), at 65nm it should use less than the x1900/x1800's as they were 80nm (i think). :)

R600 launch to be biggest in GPU history

AMD will probably ship well over 100 million 65 nanometre chips in 2007, and decided to start their own graphics adventure with a bang. We learned that the firm is inviting a ton of partners for a huge 3D-wide PR briefing - close to 200 journos will arrive at the press event and the plan is for each and every member of the press to get a taste of 65 nano chippery. µ
