PBO is basically completely disabled when you have a 5800X3D installed and if you try to set a manual overclock it will be ignored. Now because PBO is gone then so is the curve optimizer and the ECO mode which in my opinion is pretty dumb but hey I guess they just didnt want to risk any damage to the CPU

Does the ECO Button work?

There isn't one. Ryzen master is also 'tweaked' for us 5800X3D owners. I'm surprised the ability to adjust the 'Package Power Limit Control' was left in.

On my ASUS motherboard there is a setting called performance enhancer. When I set this to off by accident. It kept my cpu at 3.4 ghz I suspect this is the eco mode through the back door.

It's not Eco mode but rather you're just turning off the boost clock.

Noticing some weirdness with performance, Testing a 3090Ti in the Hitman 3 Dartmoor benchmark and the average FPS in a few places is a fair bit lower with the 5800X3D than with a 5950X, Same motherboard, Same settings etc... guessing more games are now scaling better across more cores rather than taking advantage of increased amounts of cache.

In this case you might be right, as the benchmark is very extreme. It looks like it can employ >6000 particles and >50000 cloth vertices per frame(?!) 50% CPU usage on the 5900X there, for a game lol. I could see why more cores might be an advantage here.

The 7950X3D is probably going to be a beast then. :D

Have any of you with an 5800X3D upgraded from a 5800X, or compared the two side by side? We know the 5800X was a hot boi, due to the issue of transferring heat from the chiplet to the heat spreader and having the same TDP of 5900X/5950X which have two chiplets. Has the 5800X3D improved this, or is it even worse?

Thanks.

I had both, I still have the 5800X in a box, I need to sell it. I'm finding the 5800X3D hotter, with my Arctic Freezer II 420mm, it hits 90C when running Prime95 (max torture settings!)
I don't remember what the 5800X was exactly but I think it was ~85C.

I'm finding other temps with the 5800X3D as follows - Gaming(~63C), Cinebench(~75C), it only really has a problem with Prime95. On my setup anyway.

90c is fine in Prime95, it's not exactly an example of normal use :p

I also have a 5800X knocking about that I should probably sell. Though no doubt it'll stay in the cupboard.
