Anyone else picking this one up on (likely) the 7th November?

Looking forward to pairing this up with a 5090 early next year!

Rumored specs;
Specifications of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor were leaked to the web by a Geizhals listing. The chip comes with a processor base frequency of 4.70 GHz, and a maximum boost frequency of 5.20 GHz. The base frequency of 4.70 GHz is a significant increase from the 4.20 GHz of the current 7800X3D, while the maximum boost frequency has moved up a couple of notches from the 5.05 GHz of the 7800X3D. The TDP of the processor is set at 120 W, same as the 7800X3D, and higher than the 105 W revised-spec cTDP of the non-X3D Ryzen 7 9700X.

The specs sheet also confirms that the 3D V-cache size is unchanged generationally. The stacked 3D V-cache die adds 64 MB to the on-die 32 MB L3 cache, which is exposed to software as a 96 MB contiguously addressable L3 cache. The per-core L2 cache size remains 1 MB per core. The biggest contributor to generational gaming performance increases will rest on the increase in frequencies, the new "Zen 5" microarchitecture and any IPC improvements on offer, plus L3 cache performance improvements AMD introduced with "Zen 5." We recently reported a spectacular theory that AMD has designed the 9800X3D such that the stacked 3D V-cache is positioned below the 8-core CPU complex die chiplet, and not above it, which should significantly improve thermals, and clock speeds.

@LtMatt how many are you getting this time round!?

Like others, I have been keeping an eye on the 7800X3D, putting off getting anything until I see what the 9800X3D is like and will decide from there.

Currently on an I7 9700K system so will see what improvements are like

I’ll be picking one up I expect… I did expect pre-orders to be a thing but I guess not…?

Re: performance uplifts there’s a really good article here on different processor performance at 4K (with the subsequent page of the article dealing with 1% lows), with reference to the 9950x with different RAM kits, but other processors are shown too.

This tells me that the CPU testing for FPS at 1080p are pretty misleading for understanding the expected gaming performance uplift from a new processor tbh. There only a few FPS between most CPUs at 4k… obviously depends on settings used etc! If you already have a 7800x3d I doubt it would be worth it.

I will definitely be getting it, i was holding out for the 7800x3d to build my last (this) rig but i got fed up of waiting so settled for a 7700X... I'm 100% buying the 9800X3D.

This is my thoughts on it which is why I am not saying "ill be buying it on release" I do have a cut off point of how much I will spend on it as I would be doing a CPU\Mobo\RAM upgrade.
Agreed, I'm willing to go to £500 but if it's much more than that I will just grab a used 7800X3D once they start popping up more on the used market.

Good idea, I am also waiting for Black Friday to see if there is any good deals or offers to pickup as well.

I doubt the 9800X3D will be on this as it would not have been out long

"X3d turbo mode" I just a One click button that enables expo profile plus disables one ccd if it's a dual ccd chip and disable smt, Gigabyte says this gives best performance and you should only use this when gaming

Shame they didn't include measured power consumption for 1440p or 4K gaming as well. I find the perception people get of the 7800X3D vs other CPUs due to reviews and the reality quite different.

Not sure why people are hyping themselves for this to be such a departure from the 7800X3D. At best you'll get a general 10% improvement imo, but nothing shocking beyond that. Even in terms of value it's not going to be great since it will simply be the best gaming CPU and that will command a premium. Certainly won't come close to the deals the 7800X3D had just a month or two ago, but alas those have dried up now. Plus when it comes to OCing Ryzen-anything it's been a copium since pretty much the Zen 1 days (and really it was the only Zen for which true OCing made any significant difference).

that just tells you no change and higher core models will still be single x3d ccd, not surprised dual x3d ccd isnt gonna improve gaming performance because of ccd to ccd latency and it will cost more to make, maybe next time 10 or 12 core per ccd

I got a 7600x waiting for the 7800x3D but it didn't quite move the needle for me at 4k (Tech Power Up always tests at different resolutions which is really handy). I'm definitely going to get this one as long as the price is £480<. Any more for ! 5-8% improvement over a £330 78003D isn't going to work and I think it would be super unlikely AMD prices is that high.
