AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Well there goes my plan on picking up an Asrock B850 for the moment :/

Also happening on MSI, and a few Asus boards had exploding 7800X3D's.

I think this is a case of vendors cutting corners trying to increase profits by lowering quality.

That's what's worrying, if the 870s (and not even the bargain basement ones) are doing it then I'd be concerned with the 850s

So far seems mostly specific to a small number of boards and could be down to something like people following the same junk "optimisation" guide or something like that.

Fair point. I will be waiting though just to see what comes out of this as I am very tempted to grab a 9800X3D but maybe after the new X3D chips come out next month so I've a little time.

I saw an optimisation guide a while back from some youtuber for the 7000 series and there were a lot of questionable "tweaks".

While some people are just claiming they put the CPU in the socket and didn't touch anything, Boards generally outside of outliers don't self immolate without something being over-tweaked.

Oh man I wanted to update to the 9800x3d but this stuff about burn-out is a little off putting.
Be careful when installing the CPU.

The first 1 I saw had the socket edge broken off (I have not looked at the others) so was down to user error.

I checked my CPU 3 times before adding the contact frame to it and its been fine since.

I have the Gigabyte X870 Eagle and on the latest bios

Pretty gutted the price on this has bounced back to £500 everywhere. Was £480 a week ago. Hope it's just a CNY supply hangover.
One etailer that was near £485 mark is also back upto £499, even if they have been limiting supply to one purchase per address. Even the rainforest are not selling themselves, but 3rd party resellers. So gotta be another supply blimp.

Has there been any negative reports regarding overclocking the 9800x3d?

Think I’m going to stick to just undervolting my 9950x3d on release to be safe.
