AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

I was as surprised as anyone. I used the same Noctua NT-H thermal compound each time, with an even spread across the CPU. Each time the two surfaces were cleaned with isopropyl also.

Either the Arctic Freezer II 240 is super sensitive to its location, or there's some unknown (to me) difference between my installations.

Dunno, but super happy with the outcome :)

Just done the exact same job on mine today with freezer 2 360. Not sure it's made much difference but at least it's correct now

Reckon these might see a price drop in the coming months now they are in stock at rrp everywhere?

The 7800x3d seemed to drop quite aggressively, though didnt have the demand this had initially.

we can hope but who knows, there are so many different factors involved

People were still looking at the cost of swapping to AM5 for the 7800x3d

It's possible, but if the 9950X3D has slightly poorer performance for gaming then that may keep prices up for a bit longer.

Which is the better option for monitoring CPU temps - Core or CCD1 (Tdie)? From past searching I had seen CCD1 be the recommended option, but finding a bit of a disparity in Adrenalin compared to my old 5800x. For the 9800x3d, core temps during desktop use are around 48-50 degrees, but in games only increases a bit to 55-60 degrees on average (Phantom Spirit 120SE air cooled). CCD1 is around 36-40 degrees during normal desktop use, then in games is much more similar to the core - 55-60 again.

The disparity is that, for my old 5800x, the (presumably core) temp shown in Adrenalin was usually a lot closer to its CCD1 reported temp.

I'll be waiting for pricing on the new chips then will probably just end up with a 9800X3D anyway :D
What was the 7950x3d released at? I expect it to follow that pricing structure.

I think I will be getting one day one. I wanted that originally but the 9800x3d came out first. Damn AMD making me slum it with the 9800x3d aka the peasants CPU.

To add insult to injury a cheap 7950x3d came up on members mart so I had to slum it with that as well. Not happy!

:P

I know right? Everyone has been talking about you being poor as you only have 8 cores with 3D vcache, you should absolutely sell it immediately...
I really want one of the new chips but my major usage is gaming and office work, no real productivity workloads (does slicing in Bambu Studio count?!) so the 9900X3D would be slower so I'd need the 9950X3D which is just going to be insanely overkill, hence wy I'll probably end up with the 'cheap' (ha!) CPU.

Bro what are you talking about.? I only play League. I don't do any 'office' stuff at all not even check emails. Never ever have I used a PC for any kind of productivity work like 3d rendering, sound creation etc.

But I am a tinkerer so I will just get one in to play with.

I just want to see 32 graphs in task manager, is that too much to ask?

7950x3d vs 9950x3d worth the upgrade? Guessing not?

/shrug_emoji

Depends on workload, bit more L1, same boost clock, so relying on IPC uplift which can be hit or miss but was pretty successful with the 9800X3D

When you say "everyone", do you mean like... one or two people? :D

I mean those of us potentially wanting to buy a 9800X3D ;)
We all should know by now that the 9800x3D with its single CCD is the best price/performance choice for gamers and will perform at least as fast in games as the more expensive and higher clocked models due to its single CCD. If you do not need more than 8 cores for specific productivity reasons then it is pointless to pay for more than 8 cores.

I don't see the debate here.

Aah, I see you're missing a vital piece of information...

I really want one even though its a huge waste of money for my usage because I am addicted to buying PC parts that go "Vroom!"

:D

That's fine for people to want to buy the latest and greatest, as long as no-one is under any illusions about what the actual differences are between the performance of the CPU's.
