Anyone want a 9800X3D at cost + shipping? Let me know. About to sell the one @Gibbo sent me in the MM.
I'll take it.

Yeah sorry bud needed to reply in the FS thread not here. Just gave folks a heads up here first.I'll take it.
Yep that's the bit, it is physical damage so either by user error or got through QA and arrived damaged. Is this the area you think might have been user/manufacturing damage? I will check my board when I open the box.
It's not needed for the tomahawk. it's all ready to go.So, apologies if this sounds dumb, but a BIOS update shouldn't be required before installing this CPU, right? I have a BIOS update ready for my new MSI X870 Tomahawk Wi-Fi ready to go, and I could use BIOS Flashback, but I was planning on going the traditional route of booting into the flash tool via the UEFI.
Fairly sure my X870 tomahawk didn't have that damage. I checked the slot before I put the CPU in to make sure pins were all ok, and I always give the CPU a gentle wiggle when it's seated, to make sure it's in correctly. If miune had that sort of damge in the slot I think I would have noticed (I hope!!!)Yep that's the bit, it is physical damage so either by user error or got through QA and arrived damaged.
Pretty confident it's that but there is always a chance this wasn't actually the cause.
Oh well, I did it and I'm no worse off for having taken the time. Winner. It's not needed for the tomahawk. it's all ready to go.
I was actually worried as when this first came out i had the 00 code on my debug LEDs and it wasn't posting. I was panicking a bit... till I realised I hadn't actually plugged in the CPU power cables. then all was well.I wouldn't worry about it personally, the images the person uploaded you can see there is physical damage at the top of the socket which would have likely pushed the chip slightly off so contact short.
It's not known if that was shipped to them damaged or they did it via user error, id be shocked if it was the exact same issue as last time as this was added to AMDs validation process for boards partners.
Worth doing anyway as it does state that the latest one adds support and extra speed (or something) for the 9800x3d.Oh well, I did it and I'm no worse off for having taken the time. Winner.
That reminds me of my x370 crosshair hero on launch, running into many memory errors but forever 0D which was UNHELPFUL! Didn't help with bios updates they would sometimes mess with the codes so they started changing meaning.I was actually worried as when this first came out i had the 00 code on my debug LEDs and it wasn't posting. 00 is supposed to mean it's booted and showing the temp which doesn't help you solve what's wrong. I also had a 0D error at one point which is "reserved for future use"
Good old debug codes... useful as a chocolate D**do.
Quite, that was the impetus for me doing it really. Looking forward to actually playing something on the system now...though no clue as to when that'll be at this rate!Worth doing anyway as it does state that the latest one adds support and extra speed (or something) for the 9800x3d.
Most annoying thing was that I had tested it all out of the box 10 minutes earlier and had it all plugged in, and it posted. so i was doubly confused when it didn't when it was in the case. Also took 3 minutes to post each time at first (now takes about 20 seconds) so took ages to know if it was borked or just slow. AM5 is taking me a while to get used to. lol. That reminds me of my x370 crosshair hero on launch, running into many memory errors but forever 0D which was UNHELPFUL! At least a little better and easier than the dreaded speaker beeps.
Good you got it working, we all miss silly cables sometimes!
Took me 6 hours to actually build (I blame my kids) and it was 10 hours before I actually got to play a single game... then I went to bed 3 minutes later.Quite, that was the impetus for me doing it really. Mine was about five hours, then I remembered I had a whole family wash to put out. Think it was 00:30 when I got to bed? Up at five...what a day today has been, surprised I'm still awake. Will be worth it in the end!Took me 6 hours to actually build (I blame my kids) and it was 10 hours before I actually got to play a single game... then I went to bed 3 minutes later.
Made up for it today though. all with my son on my lap.
Some eagle eyed users have caught Jufes out, running 4800Mhz JDEC on the 9800X3D.There is lots of issues with his video, even at face value - he delid, direct die water cooled his 14900ks but the 9800x3d was left stock hardware. Other overclockers have shown if you delid and direct die the 9800x3d you can get another 200-300mhz out of it due to the massive temp drop, so it's not an apples to apples comparison at all
