AMD Six Core Prices and Clock Speeds Unearthed

Since I caught the news concerning AMD 6 core, in little over 12 hours I've read 4 seperate reviews of the 890GX chipset/motherboards, read every peice of information I can find about these Hex cores...

.... and decided for the first time 5 years or so to have an AMD platform again*

I do two things with my PC

1) Game (a lot)
2) Virtualisation (Servers & Routing Simulators ect).

An overclocked 6 core machine will do me nicely :D

* Proviso being these come in at the right price point and Intel don't trump AMD with there own 6 core cheap design, which I doubt.

Here are some more details about the new Phenom II X4 processors being released:

http://www.siliconmadness.com/2010/03/amd-phenom-ii-x4-960t-details.html

The X4 940T runs at 3GHZ and the X4 960T at 3.3GHZ.

With Turbo Boost across the all 4 cores the X4 960T should be around the same speed as the X4 965 in multithreaded software, although it should be much faster in software which uses mostly one or two cores IMHO. The processors also have a 95W TDP too.

I was planning on buying a 955 this week, but do you think its worth holding off and getting one of these six cores? I dont really do any coding, mainly just gaming.

I am praying so hard that the 1095T will be 125w, around 3.4-3.6ghz, unlocked multi and will break 4ghz.

PLEASE.

EDIT: I doubt I'll get one though, I won't be doing any real upgrades until we have 4gb DDR4 dimms and 8-16 cores are the norm. With a PCIE SSD. And watercooling.

Do you have a feeling that Intel biased benchmarks will see the error of their ways when faced with an AMD hexcore?

I doubt anything will change on the benchmark bias front by having two more cores.

No I meant performance-wise. Will the new benchmark records be held by AMD 6-cores in for example superpi? (At least until i7 6cores become available)

Thats Drool worthy
I have to agree! :D . . . I always wanted to try a ROG motherboard but can just never bring myself to spend such big money! :o . . . . I'd like to "brutalize" a little Sempron 140 in that motherboard! :p . . . at £130 smackers the Crosshair IV Formula would sell like hotcakes but I still wouldn't buy it . . . may find a uATX version a little harder to resist though!

that Asus crosshair board is the one I would have bought but it wasn't out when i bought my new build :(

any ideas when that board is out? i'm expecting round about launch of the hexcore CPU's - shame it wasnt out like a month ago, like the GX boards :(

I think for the first time since my AMD 4200+ system I will go back to AMD once these 6core chips are out!

I feel the same way at present. The added proviso for me being that the amd six core proves to be faster than the i7 920. I don't suppose there's any definite information about a cheap intel hex core available yet?

I'll be buying it as soon as it's available as it's £170 or below - I reckon around the £160 mark. Omg I'm going to buy an Asus board!

Not sure what CPU I'll be having a play around with, will want to see pricing first.

hmmm looking at the 3rd and 4th pic above of the crosshair - notice the MOSFET's that are only partly covered? - I'll take it that the heatsink thingy above them are just for show as half of them are uncovered!

That mainboard is lush! Why would you need a core unlock though :S If your getting a mainboard like that surely your not gonna get a x3 chip!

Hopefully the hex cores will be a big jump in performance though I can't see it happening its more the fact of having 6 cores. AMD chips aren't cheap, Intel chips are expensive :) Hopefully AMD can get some ground back after the whole "Try to kill off everyone" Intel move.
