What sort of temps are you guys getting on air with an overclocked 4600?

I am seeing near 70degC at 2.8Ghz with 1.4v, also CPUZ tells me I have a Toledo I thought they were only 2Mb chips?

With my Akase EVO120 and AS5, i get 50 under full load (F@H affinity both cores and cpu usage at 100%). At idle with PowerNow (you might also know it as Cool 'n' quiet), i get as low as 24C idle (mostly it stays at about 28 though). I'm considering using some Thermalright Chill Factor TIM (it's their newest one and is as good as AS5 apparently). Another online retailer that specialises in quiet components is selling it for about £5+delivery.

But yeah, 70C under air. What cooler are you using. If it's heatpiped then something is wrong. Are you sure you used the right amount of thermal paste?

Hey guys!

I just got a x2 4600+ , and im wondering what the difference is between that and an x2 4400+ which i have currently.

I know the 4600 = 2.4GHz / 512Kb Cache, and the 4400+ = 2.2GHz / 1MB Cache. Which one is going to be more beneficial to me?
I only play Half Life 2 every now and again, dont really play much else, i generaly use my pc to watch dvd's, tv, internet etc

So basically which cpu would be quicker in windows? if any? :)

Thanks

The extra cache would equate to about an extra 50-200Mhz tops and as you don't do anything like video editing etc, I would use the x2 4600. You could proabably sell the x2 4400 on a famous auction site for more than you paid for the x2 4600 too :D

:) I got 2 4600's, one for that purpose alone ! Think im gonna flog the 4400 as well. Cheers :)

Not entirely on topic, but,

just got an X2 4800+ through.

LCB9E 0641 APMW Z

Got a serious contact issue atm, getting very high temps (60+) (with coretemp) but still: oc results sofar

3000mhz (250*12) - 1.6V core, cores at 62/66c with orthos. PWM @ 88+ and mobo shutdown for safety (lasted about 20 mins till shutdown) xD

2900mhz (242*12) - 1.525V Core, Cores at 60/63 with orthos, PWM at 80 (not happy with that either)

2800mhz (233*12) - 1.375V (stock is 1.35), cores at 55/61 with orthos. pwm at 69. this is how im running atm

imho, these last stepping 4800's seem to be pretty good. came with 4 heatpipe amd cooler too.

Rest of rig:

Abit AX8 r2, 2* lead free Z503 (5B-f) (maxes out about 285mhz @ 2.9V, 3-3-3-8-1T, other timings ill post later), X1800XT 512, hdd's etc, cooling (cpu, mobo, gfx) Koolance PC601 (the S939/940/am2 WB is a hard one to mount right on AX8 which is why such bad temps.)

Hi there

I asked AMD regarding the FX60's going cheap in the US and it was a deal done for that market.

AMD cannot do the same over here as AMD have no stock for the UK. :(

Are these still good for gaming? If I pair it with a 8800GTX will the processor hold me back considerably? Its much cheaper if I go down this route than get an E6600 setup.

well, they were that good they were considered pretty much the best for gaming 3 months ago!

just because they are not the absolute BEST doesnt mean they arent any good.

for comparison a Sempron 2000+ or celeron would be bad. X2 nd above should definately be considered good...

After reading about lots of upcoming games needing dual core cpus to perform well I've been looking at these 4600+ chips, would one be a worthy upgrade from an fx53? I'm not up for the financial outlay of going to a conroe rig at the moment :)

Well, i will be upgrading soon, with Vista as my OS, and have an Athlon FX-55. So do I pop one of these in (or a 4800-X2 if available)? I would gain in multi appps, but what about games?, isn't a 4600 actually slower than an FX-55 for "games" (2.4GHz operating speed - 512Kb L2 cache) were my FX-55 is 2.6 W/1MB Cache)?

Or do i go for one of OcUK BUNDLES. - Back to Intel ;)

Thing is, when upgrading a new OS, I hear the product /activation is "locked" to the MOBO, so it very much a "future" upgrade rather than a tide-me-over one.

The way i see it is the 4600X2 with a 880GTX will be similiar (sort of) to a Conroe 6600/6700 with a 8800GTS? - i'd asy anyway). With AMD, you seem to be paying quite a lot more for less performance. You won't get the best out of a GTX8800 with an Athlon as, say, a E6700, so the GFX card sort of becomes "slower" if you get the drift.
