AMD sued by Richtek: Proposed "import ban"

Gills is the only member who has made it to my ignore list in the 3 years I've been here. I invite you to do the same :) This forum is much better as a result.

Anyway I highly doubt any import ban will happen....but I reckon AMD are going to have to make a payout. It may be silly but obviously someone at AMD was not doing their job properly.

Don't know why you say that, there are quite literally thousands of these cases going on at any one time or another. There are companies out there who just try to come up with slightly smarter ways of doing things and then patent them and wait for someone to come up with the same idea and try and screw them. Most of them are thrown out or come to nothing. This one sounds much more like a case with no real basis, mosfet placement, its a joke really.

But its perfectly possible they might just thrown them a tiny bit of cash to smeg off more quickly. Its just not a case thats going to do anything that will effect any of us, its no AMD vs Intel or Intel vs Nvidia(both of which had fairly little effect on us aswell, except my stock price for AMD ;) ).

I'm not sure what to make of this... but its sounds like they are broadly describing a fairly obvious and fundemental way to implement something - patents like this, if it is the case, make a mockery of the whole system and hold up progress...

And this is any different from any of the other US patent infringements in both software and hardware industry. Look at microsoft, they patented the concept of "computing devices in cars, and networks in cars", In the late 90's yet cars have been stuffed with both engine management, navigation/entertainment and informational computers since at least the early 90's if you look at the cars like BMW's which get stuffed with toys.

Seems US patents revolve around spotting tech in the real world, and then writing a wooly patent and claiming infringement. Sad thing is it works quite often.

typical paten troll stuff. happensa lot in US, usually tried in Texas where they generally find in favour of the troll
