AMD THREADRIPPER VS INTEL SKYLAKE X

So why are Intel's CPU's becoming less power efficient? Kaylake is just Skylake with a clock bump and higher TDP, 4 core Skylake-X are again even higher TDP. from 91 watts to 111 Watts.

They are not doing a good job of being efficient, the AMD chip here is an 8 core, the Intel one a 4 core.

And that's a stock 7700K. Overclocked is burns even more.....

And 7700K is more efficient than the 6700K by few dozens watt which is more efficient than the 4970k by 50w.

On this point, if one goes back to the likes of an i7 920, what TDP were those?

-edit, they were less, than intel are achieving now, 140?
Before OC of course, but that was on 45nm fabric.

Not bad video. Not fully correct but not bad.

What would you like to add, out of interest?

Genuinely interested to see how Intel can sort out this bit of an issue they're facing. My only thought is to bring forward their Ice lake arch to mid-2018 (their next ACTUAL NEW arch, rather than refreshes/tweaks of Skylake), and really put the accelerator on maturing their 10nm process between now and then.

64 PCI lanes, Quad SLI and raid 0 m.2 yes please!!, I hope Zen 2 is something crazy like a 32 core processor on the same socket. Competition is fantastic!!

does anyone know if AMD EPYC server cpu's use the same sockey as threadripper? if so they already have 64 cores

pretty crazy if you think mainstream cpu's have been quads since 2007 ( ten years) just shows what a little competition can do! literally been a mater of months

NDA was due to lift on June 12th from what I have read/seen as they are due to come to market by the 26th or 29th June.

No, the current feed back from various sites / videos state it uses a modified version of the socket, so EYPC CPU's won't work in a TR4 socket / mainboard. However, there is nothing to stop AMD going into full attack mode and releasing the 32 core beasty on the X399 platform.

Quad cross fire you mean. Quad SLI doesn't exist any more....

And as SRS said nothing stops AMD plug two more 8 core dies on the PCB. Or 1 more and call to 24core 48t monster...
Given the clever, while big cost cutting, way the AMD is doing their new products, they can do what they want at low cost.

IMHO because of the very successful process GloFo has atm with high wield 80-90% on the 8 core part I won't be surprised if in few months AMD drop the prices more because is pointless to cut good 8core chips to make 6 and 4 core ones.
