AMD To Launch Radeon R-200 Series?

So if this is indeed correct that would mean that AMD intended to build this card nearly two years ago and only now decide to bring it to market.

I really hope this is bull, for the sake of future graphics cards if nothing else.

Both teams will probably shift over to a 2 yearly cycle now (as AMD has this time round) seeing as things get more difficult the smaller the process.

Either way im in a bit of a winning situation personally. If they go 20nm... amazing news and the potential is great... if they stick to 28nm but with essentially an upscaled refresh.... win win situation for me as i'll dive in as im upgrading from my 5870 regardless of what happens

Performance may not be the issue. Price/performance is the deciding factor.

Given the price of high end nvidia cards, I really don't know where these cards will fit in. Part of me thinks if NV can sell single GPU cards for 500+ then AMD would be daft (as a business) not to do the same, even if its just the initial RRP sales.

The non-cynic in me (who resides in a small corner of my mind rocking back and forth) says undercut NV price/performance wise pick up some quick sales, and basically steel a march on them.

The fire at the Hynix fabs 1 and 2 will probably greatly effect prices as well, even though the reports are now coming in that the damage isn't as bad as first feared.

Thing is AMD can't sell their cards at Nvdia extortionate prices, see how fast the 7990 dropped her knickers.

AMD need the performance and the lower pricing.
