AMD To Launch Radeon R-200 Series?

Will wait and see tbh. Dont judge just yet. :)

Sadly it has a ring of truth about it. SemiAccurate initially reported that VI would n't be much of a step up, no die shrink, just a few tweaks here and there.

And now this (almost) confirms it. Only R9 is Hawaii even, R8 and R7 are just re-branded 7000 series GPUs.

nV's new cards hardly set the world on fire, and looks like AMD isn't going to push the boat out either...

Either both companies are really struggling to improve their hardware, or they're both happy to release minor increments because people will still (apparently) pay top dollar for them.

What do you lot think of the 7970 on sale, worth it just before a new series of cards?

I would look up some reviews first If I was you plus If you hold out for bit longer I see prices drop more when new range come out

That is what I am thinking, wait a while and then if the new series is good then get it, or get the old series at a discount.

If 7970 gets re-brand It will cost over £300 I bet
So the MSI 7970 on sale now Is good price
Just like 7990 or 2 7970 =same price but better then 7990

It won't work like that.

Nvidia managed to rebrand pimped up GTX680 as GTX770 because...well...they are Nvidia. Same pricing model won't work for AMD, considering they've been selling comparable, if not faster cards than the GTX670/GTX680 at much lower price points for a long time and still struggle to shift as high volume in sales as Nvidia. If they are rebranding 7950/7970, they'd have to either a) sell at the current prices with the same spec b) slighting higher than current prices, but with small bump to the steam processor counts. Selling a straight rebrand of 7970 at £300 again simply won't work, and I don't think AMD is stupid enough to not realise that.

I was going to hold out for the new cards but took the plunge yesterday on the MSI twin frozr. Installed it last night with a universal GPU waterblock and have no issues running 1225 on the core and 1500 memory on stock voltage. YMMV of course and I never tested with the twin frozr air cooler but it looks to be a promising card as I reckon I can go further with extra V.

Not sure that pricing model worked this time for Nvidia either. After a disasterious 4th quarter last year, AMD have gained back market share over the first two quarters this year. So I don't think people have been that happy with the 680 rebrand and the high price of the 780/Titan. Normally when Nvidia releases new cards their market share goes up, but this year it went down, with the second quarter been worse than the first quarter!!

But you are right, AMD have to be sensible with their pricing of the new release. It will be interesting to see what they do, because over the last few generations the one thing we do know is that AMD are likely to do anything pricing wise. We will find out in 18 more days!! :D
