AMD to turn the tables on Intel in CPU race?

Correct,

If the FX8**** needs 2.0Ghz, Intel will need 30-40% less due to better IPC clock per clock performance.

This is good news for me as my i5 is struggling with 2 gpus in BF4 with 2 monitors in ultra. My ambitions is a third gpu and to keep the i5 if at all possible.

An 8-core Intel would. A 4-core with hyperthreading? no chance. They already tie (approximately) with similarly clocked 8350s in heavily threaded tasks.

In that it's won top awards from most of the sites and forced nvidia to make huge price cuts and to release the 780ti? :)

Agh, you're going to ignore all the negative stuff about it? That's cool.
Nvidia didn't see the R9 290X and then crap their pants, the fact the 780Ti came out within a month shows they already had the card pretty much primed and awaiting.

The R9 290X didn't take Nvidia by surprise, it just made them change their product roster.

all guess work lets see how it performs with games other than a amd paid for game shall we.

bf4 gets the mantle soon lets see what difference there is ;)

AMD insists that Mantle was not intended to be limited to architecture. The base Mantle merely relatively generic functions that could be supported by other architectures while a extended Mantle level adds support for specific functions currently Radeon. Mantle and could potentially become a standard with extensions, but nothing says that interest Nvidia or AMD that management will not cause it difficult to accept conditions.

Note that the AMD forum being closed to anyone, the output of the presentation linked to Mantle, we have crossed several employees of NVIDIA, one of the main architects of the GeForce GPU. AMD's competitor appears visibly as curious as us about Mantle!

??? What about them?

Intel still batter AMD.... Not every new game will run on Mantle so as an 'All round' CPU Intel at are still going to be a better option.

Why buy AMD and have a CPU that performs very well in certain games and scenarios when you can run an Intel CPU and get good performance in every game and scenario.

Well, future games needs to be multi-threaded for the new consoles, so new engines will work pretty with the AMD stuff, so the difference won't really be there in new games.

Once AMD has higher core for core performance, the older games become moot as you won't need more FPS than you have :p

Ahh. I see. You came to pee on the parade. Thanks for the contribution.

New consoles only run at 1.6Ghz though so they only offer the same It's as a 3.2Ghz quad core...

So any half decent PC CPU we offer much higher throughput

Now if only they could put this into a game that needs it :p
YES RTW2, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.

Given that CA have promised us better CPU scaling for countelss titles now (going back to Empire TW) it's time to accept that the game programmers at CA lack to technically expertise to make proper use of a multi-threaded CPU.

Latest PS4 reviews say that the games do not feel "new" compared to PS3 though, so whatever is inside the next gen consoles is not even nearly as powerful as things inside a PC.

Hell, some games are run at 720p on the Xbox one because the hardware can't cope.

The games themselves will need to be improved a lot when they are being ported to the PC, otherwise the engine does not matter much as it does not require much grunt from a modern PC if they look as "BAD" as they do on the consoles.

Yes, this comment is not related to mantle.

Rome TW2 is being ported to Linux in a couple of months, which might mean better scaling, and using OpenGL could mean better performance - it'll certainly mean better CPU scheduling.
