AMD Trinity CPU to be up to 20% faster than Llano

Some more refined performance numbers for Trinity:
http://www.hardware.fr/news/12078/ces-tdp-17w-apu-trinity.html

From the article:

"AMD told us that three formats were planned, adding details about the level of performance is expected to approximate that Trintiy from Llano:

- Desktop: 65W and 100W, 15% at 30% CPU and GPU at compared to Llano desktop
- Mobile: 35W, 25% level CPU and GPU + 50% level compared to mobile Llano (35 and 45W)
- Ultra-(BGA): 17W, performance similar to mobile Llano 35W"

Trinity is a chip I am really looking forward to, increased graphics performance is always good.
Was thinking about going a Mac Mini for quite a while, but am now holding out for an ITX setup that can cope with mild gaming.
Llano ticks all the boxes, but I wouldn't mind waiting for a bit more GPU performance.

hopefully Piledriver will help quell some of the power consumption problems at higher clock speeds, pretty much Bulldozer major limiting factor since the thing really starts stretching its legs when frequency increases. will be interested to see how much an impact the lack of L3 has on the architecture to be honest, Trinity should be a fantastic product for its target market, won't do nothing to the Intel dominance at the higher end but should give them a right kick in the teeth in the lower end. :)

Amd cpu wise have been very disappointing for the last year or two anyone trying to argue otherwise is obviously eating fusion cake

I just received my A8-3870K today. It arrived as I was reading the Trinity speeds. I'm surprised to see that the slowest quad core Trinity APU has a faster clock speed than the fastest quad core Llano! If the high end prices remain similar to the current high-end Llano prices, they will be really good value for money within their target segment.

aye, Trinity is what Bulldozer was meant to be. Higher frequencies and same and/or lower power consumption, just didn't quite work out according to play for Bulldozer or the market would be much more interesting (Bulldozer at target frequencies and power consumption = fantastic product), Trinity I suspect is going to make a big splash in its target market, low-end and notebooks where AMD products are killing Intel at the moment. its the one area of the market where they cannot compete so AMD need to do their best to leverage that huge advantage and outright take that market segment for themselves.

Zacate, Llano and Trinity are AMD's market offensive, not Bulldozer, Bulldozer was just testing the water for the next generation and has proved an interesting option that has caused its fair share of heated debates but as a proof of concept, must admit it is pretty successful. if they undercut Intel for price, and Trinity WILL offer better performance than Intel products then it'll be an interesting couple of months coming up, cause Ivy Bridge on paper stands no chance against Trinity. :)

Mobile parts on the 15th May.
Desktop is still in rumors.

Desktop will use the current A75 chipset migrated into the socket FM2 package.

cant wait for this tbh i want to get the equivalent a6 3500 for my new NAS build. Hopefully the 19w idle can be improved further on down (7-9w?) and the price remains the same

with the added cpu power there will be no probs transcoding, multicasting HD video (4k) or streaming BD discs / 24bit flacs.

Honest to god when did AMD design this chip? 1998? I've never seen such a seriously unprofessional looking computer case for years and years, it looks like it was thrown together by the work experience kid at the last minute.

The lack of professionalism aside I have to say Trinity looks like an amazing chip, the first fusion was good but this has the potential to improve AMD's standing amongst all users after the disaster that was Bulldozer.

Cost cutting and AMD has hit hard I see. First their viral marketer Big.Wayne was laid off, now they have to use what looks like a cheap no-name/OEM case + PSU combo. :p

Interesting to see that they produce their own in house mobos though.
