40% every year has been a fair standard for decades in transistor gains, I dont believe thats really over. Maybe we'll have a better idea after the 28th but its not really unreasonable to be looking ahead further then a 1070 rival at a better price. I'm just worried AMD's all round approach where they have both heavy compute tech and gaming together doesn't make them fall short on the consumer side again.
GCN was fantastic with compute workloads, but needed a lot of driver love to get their consumer/gaming performance up to par; and with Fiji they just couldn't squeeze out enough.

NVIDIA separating the two markets with different products has really helped them focus more on each; but they also have far more money to pour into both.

I'd love Vega to come out and match or beat GP102 at a cheaper price; and great as Ryzen is turning out I am a tad worried still from what they've shown us.

Well yea but no more than Intel do. Ryzen looks to be a good answer there. If that takes off and sells well Amd might become a wealthy company again. It's all if's and buts but AMD do have the potential to become big again if the products are right. Ryzen looks to be a step in that direction. If both Ryzen/Vega comes good then i can see AMD at last back to fighting Nvidia on a level playing field sooner than i thought.

Ryzen so far has given me a lot more confidence in AMD's capabilities. If they can challenge Intel again then Nvidia shouldn't be to hard.

That Raja comment about making 4k gaming affordable at under $1k keeps coming back to me...

Wouldn't put it past them to pull out something like my earlier post.

What are Nvidia going to do really? Refresh Pascal while working on their next chip? Drop the 1080ti ? Reduce prices ? All of which are great for the consumer.

Infact people should start praying that AMD do this if they don't want to see Nvidia keep pushing prices up..

My only hope is I can take this ruddy Zotac 1070 out of my PC and put something that atleast equals its performance.

Nvidia is already doing a pascal refresh fro 2017 - the 2080, 2070 and 2080TI so they can squeeze another 10 to 20% out of that depending how the refresh goes.

But will be good if AMD can pull off another 4850/70 situation and force at least a £100 price drop on Nvidia.

You have to remember though that Nvidia doesnt have to price match, they only have to get near as previous cards have show, AMD can have the faster and cheaper card and Nvidia will still out sell them.

And remmber if $1000 just means the gpu and cpu then thats still £1200 combined.....................

If they're using the RyZen 1700 (£320) as the base CPU for it, that leaves you with £880 for the GPU.

Makes zero sense to me that their best card will be 1070 or even 1080 performance.

(not saying this will happen) but if it did ,i would be interested to know what options are open to nvidia.(price war is all i can think of )

Sadly I have been down this road with AMD many, many times. Every time they promise the world, everyone gets all excited at the possibility, and they launch something which disappoints everyone who had such high expectations. They then rely on pricing to shift units rather than performance which although good for the bank, has let both Nvidia and Intel get lazy. From Bulldozer to Hawaii to Fury, none of it has really made the competition standto attention.

Don't get me wrong, despite my cynicism I am still an AMD fanboy at heart and there is nothing I'd like to see more than AMD putting the fear of god into Nvidia but sadly generation after generation of disappointment has taught me to be very wary of their marketing speak.

Of course if this does happen I'll be the first to hand over the wedge.
