Sadly I have been down this road with AMD many, many times. Every time they promise the world, everyone gets all excited at the possibility, and they launch something which disappoints everyone who had such high expectations. They then rely on pricing to shift units rather than performance which although good for the bank, has let both Nvidia and Intel get lazy. From Bulldozer to Hawaii to Fury, none of it has really made the competition standto attention.
Don't get me wrong, despite my cynicism I am still an AMD fanboy at heart and there is nothing I'd like to see more than AMD putting the fear of god into Nvidia but sadly generation after generation of disappointment has taught me to be very wary of their marketing speak.
Of course if this does happen I'll be the first to hand over the wedge.
Lets not involve Hawaii in this as it's one of the best architectures to come out of from both Company's. It's still a great gaming card right now unlike the gtx780/ti which are falling back with every new game release. Ryzen is pushing all the correct buttons so far so lets hope Vega can do the same. I see your point though especially with Fury and Bulldozer but hawaii no chance.
