AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

The point of the hardware chip is it allowed them to release without using the open standard (that they helped define) thus jumping the gun. It doesn't confer any functional advantages that have been confirmed in reviews.

I'd personally say that this test was accurate having used both, but only because Gsync for me handles the lows much better (below 60fps for instance).

That's too old TBH (close to 2 years old) as there have been improvements made by AMD to handle the lows and in General the Freesync monitors have a much better range these days. I am surprised that there has been no real up to date testing.

The Asus they used isn't a good Freesync monitor in my opinion, I bought one but sent it back just before the 14 day no quibble return limit was reached, If it had had a full 30-144 hz or even 35-144hz range and LFC it would have been different but the 90 limit change over did have a noticable negative effect for me and if I've got a panel capable of 144hz I want the full range working. My current monitor is a 3440x1440 with a max 75hz and Freesync works from 30-75 and while I prefer my fps to remain above the high 40's as the worst case when it has gone lower Freesync's done a brilliant job, When I first got it I used to keep Fraps fps counter running but lately I don't bother and everything I play feels pretty good. You can feel it when it drops below 30 regardless of LFC simply because it causes issues when doing things like scope aiming in first person shooters but non adaptive sync and adaptive sync are night and day. Once I get Vega which can push faster framerates at this resolution I'll probably want to go with a 144hz model and I hope such a panel exists by then, I just hope it has all the Freesync requirements like this one does.
I'd like to get a 144hz 4k ultrawide monitor next but I bet even Vega will struggle with that as we are talking about a 5???x2160 resolution.

While it has LFC it didn't feel great to use, I was quite disappointed as I'd been eyeing up the Dominator for some time, Maybe the TN version's better?

This is why it will be advantageous for AMD to take hold of the situation and start certifying FS2 monitors. If they have the AMD FS2 stamp you know they have been validated by AMD and have all the specs you know FS2 supports.

AMD will set the FS2 standard and will certify accordingly.

I saw no difference between my PG278Q and MG278Q in usage at all.
Then again I only got my Freesync monitor last year, after AMD had introduced LFC, and Windowed support.

Both have the same 30-144Hz sync window as well.

the sad part is Nvidia not allowing G-sync monitors to have freesync, or refusing to make freesync monitors G-sync compatible.
there is no technical reason why a monitor shouldn't have both, other than greed, why do ppl have to pick a monitor then get stuck to changing the monitor if they change the gpu?
and btw the same thing will happen with HDR monitors.

Vendor lock-in is always about controlling the customer and restricting what they can spend their money on. If you have Nvidia, you need G-sync, if you have G-sync, you need Nvidia.

It's coming lads! Not long now! ;)

That's not going to change while they have the bigger market share.

Where was that?

Actually you can't say here and I would prefer to wait for here anyway.
Plus pre-ordering doen't mean much nowadays,
How long did it take EVGA to fulfill the 1080 FTW orders?
And even when done it turned out to be a dodgy card as if they'd rushed things.

Don't worry mate, there shall be photos when it arrives in a few weeks :D

I didn't have the estimated delivery dates, but now though. I'll post photos when it arrives. It's coming from the USA though, so hopefully the delivery dates are accurate.

Fingers crossed customs don't fleece me. ;)

should be all over the web by morning then if a US retailer is taking pre-orders already. So it was a blind pre-order with no pictures, no specs, prices etc? wanna fill in those details without naming the site ;):p

Go on, i'll play along :)

As i understand it FS and FS2 will co-exist. FS2 monitors will likely not cost as much as GSYNC HDR for the fact there is no dedicated hardware chip. It's unclear if AMD's certification process will cost anything ATM. Of course FS2 monitors will cost more than FS1 but like a lot of things you get what you pay for.
The Gsync hardware and license cost is pretty minimal though, $30 or so. The main price difference between Gsync and Freesyn is mostly market deman differences and vlaue propsoiton. People are happy to pay more for Gsync, manufacturers charge more.
