I don't see how AIBs will have any ability to do that. They'll get the Vega chip with HBM2 already on it.
It's built onto the interposer, not the pcb like normal VRAM that can simply be added by AIBs.

Well they said it was up to their AIBs what they wanted to do, either 4 or 8GB, so surely, if theres 16GB as well (the Frontier), then they could do some of those too, no ?

I never want AMD to go bankrupt but what i hate most is silly and childish marketing. Mocking Volta ,even though they have no idea what Volta is about to bring, Overclockers dream and look what fury X turns, etc.......

I want AMD to knock Nvidia out ,but AMD market is based on la la la land. If AMD comes to reality than i will only buy AMD products.
AMD never claimed fury was an overclockers dream, and this is embarassing for ppl who keep repeating it, if they take time and go watch the video again, they will understand that they never said fury was an overclocking dream.
and to be honest this is not on AMD, this is on you, being able to comprehend the meaning of a sentence is a basic skill, it's you who should score an F for not being able to extract the accurate message behind it.

Actually looking at that water cooled Vega card, the size doesn't make any sense. If it was purely hbm2 it would be around the size of the Fury X. Instead it's a full length pcb card.

The card has 16GB but only 480GB/s bandwidth. That means either 4 stacks of 4GB, which would mean significantly higher bandwidth. Or they're using two 8GB stacks, which is also unlikely. Neither Samsung nor SK Hynix has shown any working.

Even Ryan Smith at Anandtech doesn't know how AMD might have done that.

Calling it here folks, Vega 16GB is actually 8GB HBM2, and 8GB GDDR5 using the HBCC to use it all.

They dont list the card as having 16GB HBM2, they state and list 16GB HBC - High Bandwidth Cache.

What the hell are babbling on about. Fury X has been out for how long?

4 years is it? Geez....

Honestly i still think polaris were meant to be originally as 3xx series on 20 nm with Fiji on top. Up until end of 2014 we've seen the news about how AMD's 20nm GPUs will come...then 2015 spring, the 20nm flopped, and came the news AMD skips it, and then came the renamed 3xx series, then Fury. They just converted Fiji to 28nm because as a big expensive chip it might brings back the cost, and put Polaris on 14 nm.
I think that because Polaris is not that big of a step, but it would have been a great kicker on 20nm agains Maxwells.

Also, if his excuse for all his anti amd posts is poor volta then lol.

But it obviously is not, he has other motives which is obvious as his whole account is about posting anti AMD stuff way before the poor Volta incident which is just an poor excuse to hate on a company. Funny thing is, what he does not realise is with every anti AMD post he seems to strengthen AMD and potentially create more hate towards Nvidia :p

..Where's Vega?@

That's what I was thinking, It's only going to happen if AMD supply them with the 16gb variant. I hope they do though.

Rubbish, That's exactly what he said, There's no getting out of it, AMD CTO Joe Macri said. “This is an overclocker's dream.” He hammers the point home so it beggars belief that someone could seriously claim otherwise.

My Fury Pro has been excellent over the last 2 years and it has kept getting better with almost each driver upgrade. I have a freesync screen and everything is supersmooth. I am a happy camper and hope Vega gives the 10 series cards a good run for their money. Unfortunately they wont be getting mine yet coz in the end I had to use it for something non computer related...however to ease the pain I was given two 1070's for FREE....yes free, from a mate who just bought himself two 1080Ti's, so I may just go Green for a bit to see what it's like on the other side without Freesync while I await the Vega news and start saving again. And you all thought I was an AMD fanboy ;):p

He didn't lie though. To this day Overclockers dream of OC'ing the Fiji cards.

Same here it's been a great card to live with and although I was worried about how it would perform at 3440x1440 it's done well, It's paid for itself even though I thought it was overpriced at £440 on release.
