what do you make of the dfi rd600 mobo ?
Looks like a good board. I haven't seen anything about the "rd600" chipset though. I'm sure it's good. I would recommend the asus though, that would be my choice.

Up to you, but 680 is the concensus on this forum at the moment.

Edit: wish the mountain mods website didn't excite me so much :o :D

I'd check out some reviews and get some opinions. The 680 boards come highly recommended around here though.

I never buy Intel - prefer with AMD as Im still using S939 with FX-55 San Diego seem great run all way since I bought June 2005.

If you were buying a new system now you'd be a fool to pay more money for an inferiour product.

It'd be like paying £100,000 for a micra when you could have a 4 seater Tuscan that's better in every way for £50,000.

But the Micra has better fuel economy.... ;)

I know that's in jest, but note my inclusion of "better in every way", a get out clause for posts like yours :p

what exactly are you aiming for?
Vista isnt really much of the platform its supposed to be for games, and really, isnt vista supposed to be less of a resource hog?

No its not supposed to be , its meant to shift the resources from the CPU to the GPU for all gfx work as much as it can making the desktop gfx & games less cpu bound than before.

And to use as much ram as it can to speed things up.

Lots of games are CPU intensive. I have just run through lots of games with my new C2D ([email protected]) and all showed improved frame rates from my [email protected].
LOMAC/COH/MTW2 and surprisingly COD2, also FEAR is miles faster.
The beach landing in COD2 is completely smooth, my 3700SD at the same settings could achieve this.
