AMD Vs Intel

Really, lol,

Care to enlighten me instead of your overly intelligent response there mate
everyone else has done that already i just got here late

the "more stable" arguement for intel is probably from 1994, when amd cpus was just intel cpus copies and not good ones at that. and what is "more stable" anyway??? its either stable or it isnt. 99.99% stable isnt stable at all.

but its 2006 now, and socket A, and the A64s are as stable as intel, infact probably more so since intel has heat issues and have to throttle there fastest cpus to stop them crashing. thats hardly stable is it????

so intel never had problems with stablitly??? dont remember those 486's (or was its 286's?) that couldnt add up? or those P3 1ghz that couldnt compile linux so was all recalled? What about that 4ghz P4.....no wait, they didnt even release it in the end since they couldnt keep it stable......hmmmm

Errr, I think your missing the point again :( , you can't compare just CPU's, how many times do I have to say this, CPU's don't run buy them selfs they obviously have to be paired with a group of components that make a platform and as I,ve said from the beggining and I'll say it again an Intel cpu + Intel Chipset + Intel mother board is a more stable than an AMD system with third party counter parts, Everyone expept you and a few other uninformd people in this thread know that Intel are well known for thier legendry stable chip sets,

Looks like this thread is gonna be a learning experiance for you then b-cos like I said and other people have said, cpu's are not manufactured to be 100% stable, nor is any other pc component, that is impossible like is said before this is due to how the chips are manufactured, (and obviously the different types of architecture they prefer to use) is that actually sinking in, did you not know this ?.

NO CPU, NO CHIPSET, NO M/B IS 100% STABLE WHEN IT COMES OFF THE MANUFACTURING LINE, these manufactures work to a percentage, as long as X amount of cpu's etc are of 99.5% stable and above (just using figures as an example), then they get passed througth quaility control and then passed onto the consumer, of these chips, 95% or what-ever X amount of people will never have any problems with the chips (even tho they are not 100% stable), but a small percentage of people will have problems, and depending on the manufacturer that percentage will be bigger or smaller.

Why is having a 3rd party chipset a bad thing? And while i do remember the great chipsets Intel have, im sure there was some really poor ones too (910 and 915???). Sure, id never choose a 3rd party chipset with a intel cpu because its just asking for trouble. But since AMD removed the memory controler from the Chipset, the chipset has less effect on the whole CPU subsystem, its just doing the I/O system now.

All Intel fan boys go on and on about stablity, and how AMD fanboys choose to forget this, but its the exact same problem the other way around... intel fan boys choose to forget ALL negative points Intel have had. Yet remember EVERY problem AMD have had... Why is that?

I wasn't a fan of the Athlon XP + poor chipsets, but the A64/Opteron with NF3 + 4 chipsets are very good.. almost upto Intel standard now, which is great news for AMD.

I've had many chips from both (and Cyrix \o/).. I just go for whichever is best at the time..

well having had three intel systems in the past .........
Like I have said earlier, I chose to move to AMD .........
that was it

fleabay got my intel and I got a new single core AMD rig.Knowing full well that All i needed to do was flash the bios to utilise the dual cores cpu's on release.

I have never looked back.I should have got an AMD from the start.

My then AMD was COMPLETELY stable with no issues over my intel rig it replaced .

It was faster!
The mobo was cheaper!
And all i did for dual core goodness was flash the bios!

I am no fanboy at all I buy what gives me the best performance with the least hassle. And I must say AMD was my saving grace.

There is no way I was gonna let intel get there hands on my dollars again!

less performance for more money.....Yeah right!

Have to agree, because that is the situation i was in.
Had 3 Intel systems & now on my 2nd AMD system.
Never had any stability or any other issues with either AMD system (though i do research which parts i get for max compatability).
Unless something drastic changes in future (but i dont see that happening) i am sticking with AMD.
