Also, I'm not entirely convinced the L3 cache makes a massive difference. Can someone quote me a benchmark with an AII and a PII with the same number of cores and the same clock speed for gaming? There's a fair price difference here.

Awesome, so X4 630 is £75.19
X4 920 isn't currently available but judging from the 965 pricing, we'd be looking at about £100.

So you basically pay ~£25 for a ~3-4 average fps increase, which isn't bad but we're not at all struggling on the 630.

Yeah but the Phenom II 555 BE is the same price (usually cheaper), has an unlocked multiplier and has the potential to be better than the Athlon X4 640 if you can unlock the cores.

The question is: do you want to gamble?

Just a random heads up for anyone looking at picking up a cut-price AMD® Phenom II X4 955 and wanting max overclocking potential . . . make sure you check the codes if you want to get the newer C3 revision chip which seems to run a bit cooler and clock a bit better . . . HDX955FBGMBOX is the latest!
