AMD vs Nvidia - VR edition

Installed the 3090 and tried a few games. Project cars 2 is just sublime, not a single frame drop, no repro, no stutter. ACC i had running stable on the old 2080ti with a little repro and dropped frames, now i get no drops or repro it glides. Not touched the visuals because i'm happy with the default epic [email protected]. Tried Contractors with every setting to ultra as it would struggle with the frame rate on the 20ti, it holds 90 now. Lastly some of the 4k visual pinball tables would struggle before on multiballs, now they just don't.

Very happy, project cars 2 was just another level of stunning, i eagerly await to the G2 to see if it does it for a 3rd time.

I would consider a 3090 if I could have got one at MSRP. But no way at anything over that. And I do think Nvidia have the upper hand in VR at the moment.

Should not be too hard to pick up a 3090FE now. There have been two drops this week and have been available for a couple of hours each time. Go on you know you want to :)

I think the 3080 FE is a non profit making card and so will remain scarce at RRP.

At least NV are making some effort with VR through DLSS. Still have not heard of any game which utilises it. If DLSS 3.0 became a thing it could be a massive game changer for VR.

:) will keep a look out. One thing holding me back is having to buy a new power supply and that the rumoured 3080Ti might not be far away.

Nvidia has VRSS which works in any VR game that has MSAA. You can turn in on in the 3D settings in the Nvidia control panel. You need a Turing or Ampere card though. It offers an increase in visual quality without any performance penalty. Works too.

Nvidia are trolling me. They just sent me an email with the subject " 'Tis the season to upgrade".

Yeah, well if you didn't have supply issues i would be upgrading!

Really wanted to buy a 3080 but I have just seen a 3070 in my local area for sale and it's very tempting because it would mean I could have a new GPU tomorrow and I wouldn't need to buy a new PSU.

I have a 2070 Super at the moment.

Decisions, decisions.

I would go for the 3080 - 3070 is 2080 ti performance so 30-40% better than your 2070 S

Whats the verdict then so far, 3080 or 6800XT for driving a Quest 2?

My RX480 is on its knees with the new link update.

Haven't seen any benchmarks yet. But, usually Nvidia are better in VR benchmarks. Babeltech is about the only site I know that does VR benchmarks.

Hopefully they will have a review of the 6800 cards in VR soon.

EDIT: Seems they already have :)
