AMD wants to improve gaming in Linux and Steam boxes

But that's not taking it at face value.
Even more is just more, 1 being more, 2 being more.

None of them constitute lots, ESPECIALLY as you mentioned the rebellion with "lots" of titles in a "rebuttal" to my point about EA having the majority of Mantle titles.

'Even more titles'. Means at least two or more in my book and that's excluding Sniper Elite V3. As Mantle is part of the Asura engine now, any game they release could support Mantle. So yes ill call that lots, especially since it appears to annoy you. :D

Ty but it did sound like you were saying lots was a quote from their site when i asked,
But its ok main thing Hopefully we get a few more 2014 releases from them :)

I did say lots that's why. I guess it comes down to how each individual interprets what lots mean. Lol, gotta love OcuK. :D

Yes you did say Lots But the site doesnt,
That's what it says on their website<< indicating to me at least thats what the site said Not your interpretation of it is :)
But we all take stuff differently mean different thing everyone's brain works a little different don't worry its called being human :)

To me lots means more than a couple. I would take from that they will have at least two new Mantle games to be revealed (happy Martini? :p) further down the line. Other wise why indicate there's more than one? Anyway who cares whether it's two, three or fifty? Was it worth two pages of back and forth over the word lots? Hey, im not so sure. Just another day in the gpu section. :D

I think we quickly run out of actual things to discuss due to limited information available.

I'm now interested in this video to see if Nvidia/Intel have signed up for Mantle or if companies will release Linux games as Mantle-only.

The video will not disappoint. I will start a new thread because it's going to be one hell of a talking point. Richard Huddy could prove to be a good appointment for AMD i think. He does need to clear his throat a lot though lol. You'll see what i mean.

Can anyone remember the last negative thing Rusty or GM said about Nvidia? :D Better get searching their posts. Only thing i can think of is GM once saying he didn't miss Physx. :p

OcuK Disclaimer
No looking for the last negative thing i said about AMD

:D

PM aren't you saying that Mantle couldn't work on Linux because their OpenGL drivers are poor? Because that's how it looks and i think that is what Humbug was replying to. Mantle does not need much in the way of driver updates so this would not be an issue.

That's certainly not what I'm saying, read carefully - I am saying that AMD's track record with Linux does not bode well for them with a Mantle implementation on there.

But just before that you cite their OpenGL drivers as poor and the only reason they're keen on using Mantle on Linux, before saying you don't even think it will work at all if implemented, presumably because of their drivers. Mantle does not need a lot of driver optimization, most of it is done by the game developer.

what few driver-level optimizations can actually be made (remember, Mantle is designed to move the driver out of the way for developers) have already been made.

//EDIT: To be abundantly clear, a graphics API exists to facilitate communication between the game/driver/hardware triangle. Mantle greatly emphasizes the engine/hardware line, and greatly diminishes the size of the driver line, but the graphics driver must still support the API and know how to respond to those API calls!

Taking the drivers out of the equation as it won't be an issue with Mantle, what other reasons are there?

with them now claiming that Mantle could be implemented on Linux - well, that doesn't fill one with confidence as to how well it work, if it all and if they actually bother to do it in the first place (they don't always live up to their word).

This sentence isn't coherent, I'm not sure what you are asking or claiming here. But I will address the latter part of it, and again I ask that you go back and read my post carefully again - I did not say that I "don't think it will work at all if implemented", the keyword in my original post being "if" that you need to look out for.

I'm asking why you say poor drivers are the reason for them implementing Mantle on Linux and how that applies to Mantle not working on Linux when drivers are not important in the grand scheme of things on Mantle like they are for OpenGL/DX.

Key word being "if" in my post you quoted, as I quite rightly pointed out previously.

And it is abundantly clear that in any case drivers are still very important for any 3D graphics application, note the very last part of Thrack's statement here:

Therefore, of course, AMD's Linux drivers are still going to have to be good to obtain decent performance - they can't just produce any old crap and rely on the game developer to get it to work.

But AMD drivers support OpenGL? They may not perform optimally in games but that optimization is not required from Mantle, so how is that relevant here? It's not. Unless you're telling me you know Mantle better than Thracks.

Not this tripe again, when you start doing this in debates it's pointless to even make any more points as you're clearly not listening. So, to hell with this, I'm going to play some PlanetSide 2 instead...

PM all im saying is AMD's OpenGL drivers being poor does not mean Mantle on Linux won't work, if implemented. If it's for other reasons that you didn't make clear, then fair enough but you only mentioned their drivers. No hard feelings. :)
