AMD wants to improve gaming in Linux and Steam boxes

I'm thinking about doing the same same when I post something non-positive regarding AMD or anything they're associated with.

I've said it regarding myself too: people just can't process or make sense of what you're (general 'you') saying unless they place you in either a red / green camp. You aren't allowed to be just a neutral consumer who doesn't defend a brand and attack the other.

So the fact you have AMD GPUs and point out certain negative things while not being overly positive utterly confuses them to the point of borderline incoherence :D.

Can anyone remember the last negative thing Rusty or GM said about Nvidia? :D Better get searching their posts. Only thing i can think of is GM once saying he didn't miss Physx. :p

OcuK Disclaimer
No looking for the last negative thing i said about AMD

:D

:D

Pretty sure I've recently mentioned their high prices, especially the Titan Z.
Besides which, I'm not using Nvidia hardware currently, so I'm less likely to have issues with it.

EDIT: Out of interest, what was the last negative thing I said about AMD?

I say negative / positive things as they come up - brand doesn't factor into my evaluation. If I haven't said anything negative then there hasn't been anything I deem to be negative.

I don't really have any interest in going out of my way to defend or be negative about any corporation.

Right lets get back on track :)
Nvidia is bad, AMD is good,, Titan Z pricing is terrible no matter who's camp your in/not in
Mantle is the second coming
Anything i missed?

They can do it by finally getting OpenGL compliance tests done and passed to the khronos group's standards. Along with fixing their Linux and OSX OpenGL drivers.

NVIDIA, Intel, and AMD had a big presentation at GDC where they talked about drastically reducing driver calls, and boosting performance in OpenGL significantly. Get on it, and stop messing about.

Hell even their drivers cause issues for 4K displays now, with flickering, and signal drops. In OSX SST 4K displays have graphical corruption. Sort it all out AMD, and you'll easily help the *nix gaming market grow.

**** you don't know that.

The majority of Mantle titles are coming from EA, EA games are Origin exclusive. Origin isn't on Linux. Isn't this fact? EA factually have the majority of (announced) Mantle titles.

How are they coming to Linux then? How does one play BF4 on PC without Origin (Without pirating?)? If you can't do it on PC, you ain't doing it on Linux, and I mean NATIVE.

This can all change if Origin gets a Linux port, and the games get Linux ports following on from that.

Your the one insisting Origin will not come to Linux and that no Origin game will ever be on Linux.

You tell the audience what you know that they and i don't.

You're putting words in my mouth, that's not what I said at all. I've justified my "arrogance" to you. You've no able come back, so you're resorting to putting words into my mouth.

Origin games can't come to Linux without Origin coming to Linux, by their very nature an Origin game is tied to Origin.

So EA need an Origin Linux client.

Which as I've said previously is ironic since gamers will perhaps use SteamOS as a linux gaming OS, and with Mantle their best bet for native AAA Linux gaming comes from EA/Origin.

So back to my "arrogant statement" ; Without Origin, the majority of Mantle games don't come to Linux. And it's factually correct. (At the time of knowing the current games in development supporting Mantle).

Indeed, it is quite ironic AMD claiming that they want to invest their technology into the Linux market when their current drivers there are still of a fairly poor standard; Nvidia's Linux drivers are much better. Now we see that AMD cannot be bothered to sort themselves out in this regard with OpenGL and would rather push their currently proprietary Mantle API whilst attempting to excuse themselves by claiming that the Khronos group is rubbish and that OGL is inferior to their solutions.

AMD do not have a great track record with Unix based operating systems, and with them now claiming that Mantle could be implemented on Linux - well, that doesn't fill one with confidence as to how well it work, if it all and if they actually bother to do it in the first place (they don't always live up to their word).

You need an Origin client for Windows to play EA Games, that is no guarantee of translating into other platforms, its an assumption not a fact.

Besides that EA are not going to pass up a chance of more sales, Linux and Steam Box are a whole new platform to exploit, they are not idiots.

Google "Linus Torvalds, Linux Nvidia" to see just how bad Nvidia is with Linux platforms.

Nvidia use OpenGL to forward their own interests, not Linux. they have no interest in Linux.

Mantle is not OpenGL, Mantle is Mantle, i don't think you understand what any of this is.
