AMD working on GDDR6 memory controller

Here's another thing to ponder: if HBM is so bad, why does Apple have no issue with it? Why does Intel have no issue with it? Both are going to use HBM-based cards so what gives?

It's quite simple: if AMD is asking for HBM then Hynix will work on it with... no priority. They know not to expect much in sales, so...

But if Apple or Intel ask Hynix to make HBM chips, then Hynix will get down to business and deliver the best HBM you have ever seen. In the numbers that they asked for.

If Nvidia get a monopoly then 970 type cards will be the same price as todays 1080 Ti type cards.

I really don't think it's a question of if, it's a question of when. Nvidia have such a massive market share, and die hard supporters who stalk forums/articles posting negative comments about anything AMD, that AMD cannot hope to recover in the PC gaming market.

I think AMD will just stick to CPU/Consoles, leaving NVIDIA the PC gaming market to themselves. Then, as you say, we'll be drip fed small performance gains and £600+ 970 type cards, crippled, locked down, etc.

The stuff the PS4 has really pulled off for the base model is quite impressive.

There is no game that looks as good as Uncharted 4/The Lost Legacy and Horizon Zero Dawn/The Frozen Wilds on the PC.

? Wrong thread maybe?

I'm talking about the PC gaming market, where there any many PC exclusives. AMD doesn't stand a chance there anymore, their market share continues to dwindle in the gaming scene.

They'll stick to consoles, and NVIDIA will have a monopoly on the PC gaming market, I can't wait to see the tears of the NVIDIA fans when GPU Boost gets disabled, overclocking gets disabled, prices get hiked, performance advances are slow etc.

Just look at how long Pascal has been out there - you can get NVIDIA are sitting on future tech, simply as they get better yields/profits out of milking Pascal for as long as possible.

If Vega had been a serious threat, NVIDIA would have released something new by now :)

Yeah because AMD would totally be OK selling naff products if it wasn't for us meddling nV shills, right?

Gaming technology on AMD consoles are doing better than the PC scene. As for performance advances, it is slow right now and has been for a while on the PC scene.

AMD are offering as good or maybe even better cards. Vega prices are horrible but so are Pascal cards.
Now that the weather has turned colder, the extra power and heat are a bonus feature, right? AMD really nailing it this winter :p

Best lube up for the 2070 boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D
I'll just be keeping my monies ... absolutely no lube required :p

Both companies are trying to bend us over, and I'm having none of it. What's the point? The games aren't even worth it anymore.

Thankfully I still enjoy the hell out of 2D indie platformers... in fact it's been a while now since I played anything regarded as "AAA". Personally I wouldn't care too much if they both abandoned the PC graphics market and devs went back to designing fun games rather than absurdly pretty ones.

It's worrying because so many people out there are die hard idiots that they don't realize they are shooting themselves in both feet by vying for a monopoly, Mark my words that in the coming years if/when AMD stops making desktop GPU's and just focuses on CPU's and consoles, The GTX xx70 cards will cost as much as todays reference 1080 Ti, I can pretty much guarantee it now.

If they do that they’ll just push gamers from the market. I know I would stop making my PC for gaming and use it more for work related things instead. For gaming I would just get a console. Seems it could go this way? nVidia will just shoot them self’s in the foot if prices go higher and higher.
