Hey,

Was wondering which Intel CPU would be the closest to the AMD x64 5000 dualcore CPU.

Going to get a new processor and not sure whether to stay AMD or go Intel.

Cheers

I'd say the E6600. But the E6400 & even the E6300 have been shown to beat the X2 5000+ in some benchies  See here

IMO go for Intel C2D

C2 cpus really that good? I'm getting offered a good deal on 5600 AMD X2cpu, still go for Intel?

Basically i should rephrase. which CPU would give me the best value for money, per pound. Obviously if i'm going back to Intel i'm going to need a new mobo so i want to be really able to notice the difference if i'm splashing the extra cash.

Long story short, and I'm sure many here would agree; Yes, C2D is that much better. :)

Also, most Core 2 Duo motherboards are very future-proof and already support quad-core.

Hmmmmmmmm i'm still thinking amd x2 5600.

The price difference is too much i think. I should point out i'm not needing to be on the bleeding edge of technology all the time either.

Ok think i shall go for the amd 5600. Any one point me to any good review sites. the 5600 isn't on tomshardware becnhies yet.

Thanks guys

if its a good price you may aswell get it, its still a very fast CPU, so if its a cheap upgrade, may aswell. C2D are better CPUS in general, but really, if its a good price itll offer as good bang for the buck gettin the AMD

You haven't told us how much you're paying.

Unless it's really cheap, then a C2D will be a much better CPU for you.

Another stupendously useful post from lolcb.

OP: unless the deal is absolutely stunning (over 50% off).

You are better of with a core2duo, e4300, e6300, e6400 and e6600 are within the price range.

Heck, e63/400 is around the same/faster as the 5000.

You guys don't get it. No matter how cheap it is, it won't be cheaper than an E6300. ( OCed E6300 do beat this CPU, yes? )

The reason he asked for the equivalent of C2D is probably to compare performance:price ratio.

If so, what is the price of E6600? £220? So let us assume the price of this AMD CPU is +/- 10 of £220. Tell me, in what way is this a feasible decision to make?

Core2duo e6300 and overclock it a bit. The performance is probaly the same if not better (not entirely sure about though), but its gotta be cheaper, more future proof, etc.

For every day use and gaming you won't really notice the difference between the two CPU's.

If your having to upgrade your whole system just to go Core 2, Don't bother.

Just get your X2

Don't you want the fastest for your money?

Then it has to be C2D

I'm currently running a 6400 @ 3.7ghz and it cost me 120 quid.

Now tell me any AMD chip thats can beat it and you can include the FX range in there too.

Not one I tell thee...Not one :D

yeah, low end AM2 X2 with good overclocking and inexpensive motherboard, you got a good system, though C2D is faster its not gonna blow the thing away, plus AM2 motherboards are meant to be futureproof as well, since socket AM2 is supposidly compatible with there AM3 processors, BIOS update?

But it's the EXTRA expense of buying the motherboard and memory though.

Yes the C2D is better value for money but not when your doing a full system upgrade just for the C2D.

Ignore easy rider (should be called easy money) he didn't figure out upgrading to C2D means a mobo and CPU HSF (is your system and C2D DDR2?)

What's your existing CPU?
You will only notice a X2 dual core if you do heavy multi-tasking x2 and high priority process plus still want the system to be fast, like encoding music and playing a game. Or encoding music at 50% CPU load overall on the dual core (would normally be 100% on single core therefore dog slow until that process has finished)

Although I presume the X2 5000 is a costly chip.

If he already has a amd motherboard+memory that`s compatible, then yes buy the x2 5600, but if he also needs to get a new motherboard as well, then C2D would be a much better option for him.

Hang on for a second I'm running a 120 quid chip currently. ;)

He could get

E4300 £110
Asrock MOBO 40

150 would see him get a 2.7ghz at least flooring a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.60GHz (Socket AM2) - OEM

Costing

£164.49 inc VAT Just for the cpu

So stop talking carp before you tell anyone to ignore me get your facts right.

You think he should spend 165 for a chip alone?

Have you though that the X2 5000 is only on socket AM2 so therefore he must have DDR2 or will be getting DDR2

I have heard it all now!
ROTFL :D
