AMD X2 5000, what is the core 2 duo equiv?

yeah, low end AM2 X2 with good overclocking and inexpensive motherboard, you got a good system, though C2D is faster its not gonna blow the thing away, plus AM2 motherboards are meant to be futureproof as well, since socket AM2 is supposidly compatible with there AM3 processors, BIOS update?

Nope, thats AM2+ thats compatable with AM3. :)

You'd be better off with the intel for the price and for the performance. There are budget boards that will still outperform the amd alternative. The only other reason would be convenience, if you can just switch over the cpu and do it cheaply and dont need the performance then I guess go with the x2 5000.

Do they overclock well, normally top of the range isnt the one which has the most to gain in that respect whereas the e6300 will take you from that performance level to about double

Here are some resizes of a sig I spotted in case you wanted a resize at all :o Should be within forum boundaries

If you want to run at stock then consider an AM2 system

If you have an AMD board and kit and all you need is a CPU then look at the X2 5600+

This WILL be faster than the E6400 at stock. If it costs the same then it's the better choice - it's a no brainer

Not if your into overclocking but he said the power isnt needed that badly. Who the heck actually uses all this processing power that much so I tend to agree.

Only time I use it is video encoding and 30 or 20 mins doesnt make much difference I guess :)

Np on the sig, its a cool sig. I need one of those :p

reason i didnt go conroe was my budget , i could either get am2 board and dualcore cpu plus graphics card or core duo cpu and just motherboard so went for am2 as i got 7600gt for the diff.
90 for 3800x2
50 for mb
60.00 7600gt

core 2
85 mb (one wanted)
130 for cpu when was getting it
so it was either intergrated graphics , not good for me as main is gaming
or get am2 with 7600gt which in my opion better for me for gaming obviously.

if want sig doing i could get you one done can i post website though.

if you already have AM2 mobo + DDR2 ram then why not get a X2 3800+ and oc the heck out of it, this is the cheapest option and will give you performance better than the 5600+ for less than half the price.

if you need new mobo + ram then obvious go C2D.

Im guessing the OP has run away from this thread by now as the usual suspects are here, again, about to ruin the thread... :o

Let's be supportive and buy AMD! :D (although I would've bought C2D if I were to buy a completely new system)

Btw, the new x2 3600+'s are awesome :)

If you already have an am2 mobo, and you're not a mad gamer, go for the x2.

If you love the extra bit of power in your rig, than price check a cheap C2D+cooler+mobo and see what the difference in £ is.

At stock C2D is not worth it for you at all. If you don't mind overclocking than you'll get a lot of stretch out of a C2D.
