AMD Zen 2 (Refresh) 3900XT/3800XT/3600XT

I'm 100% confident that AMD aren't charging 3700X money for a 3600XT. No where near it. What you're seeing is retail pricing based on low volumes of a new product which pushes the price up.

The 3300x for example, started off at about £110. Weeks later, shops started charging 3600 level money. That wasn't AMD turning into Intel. Or AMD turning into the devil incarnate. That's retail shops increasing prices due to high demand.

I think AMD have actually said that they're selling the 3600XT for the same money as the 3600X. What retail outlets charge is up to them. Chill out everyone.

3600XT is currently selling for £240. 3700x is currently selling for £290. The AMD rrp for the 3600xt is listed by Amazon as £250.

Are we now at the stage of delusion where £240-250 is "nowhere near" £290? It's less, sure, but it's not miles away.

Obviously AMD are not 'enforcing' any high pricing... all they do is have a 'suggested' retail price, which resellers are free to implement or ignore as they wish based on principles of supply and demand. Currently, it just makes no sense to buy any XT CPU considering their mark-up over the non-XT CPU's and the negligible performance increase that they provide. They just aren't a sensible purchase.

If I saw those two processors for sale, I would buy the 3700X for £290 because it makes more sense and so would a lot of people in this discussion.

However, if the 3600XT was perhaps £190, I may buy that instead. AMD would make less money.

See how clever the pricing is? People will buy the more expensive processor because it makes more sense.

There's already the 3600 at £150 for people on a lower budget.

I don't see what people are getting so annoyed about.

In which case the 3700X is £250, not £290.

OcUK selling the 3600XT for £250 is madness. You'll notice I didn't specifically blame AMD for the price - I just said no one in their right mind is buying a 3600XT for £250. A comment I stand behind. You can get a 3700X for that price or a 3600 for £100 less.

Sad to say, but OcUK seem to have seriously lost the plot with their pricing lately. I don't really care for their excuses - they are considerably more expensive than most other outlets.

E.g. trying to sell the 3600 for £190 - just lol. It's a shame, I used to buy stuff from here, but can't see buying anything in the near future with the level of gouging going on.

Just one slight problem. The prices you keep quoting are either ex VAT and shipping or from a highly suspect affiliate e-trailer, the owner of has been associated with various scam sites.

Currently listed elsewhere from OCUK the 3600XT £240 and 3600 £173, not a huge difference, when you look at delivery and availability etc

Yes, the 3600 can regularly be found for less than £150 including delivery. Looking around I can't see the XT for anything cheaper than £240.

I paid closer to £140 for mine which is £100 cheaper than the going price for an XT. Personally, I don't think the performance gain is worth the substantial price difference.

I think my psu blew up today, first time I've had something like this happen, it tripped the electrics too. In a way I'm kinda hoping it took out my Mobo as well so I got an excuse to upgrade although I'd want to go x570 and as I need itx I'm a bit limited.
Not sure which cpu would be that much of an upgrade over my 2600x. Had anyone got a link or a site that has reputable benchmarks for these things comparing them?

I Would say to wait for zen 3 before changing out the 2600x.

Oh I thought that was already out like the 3800XT, I'm so confused with the naming schemes. Well I suppose the only issue will be if my CPU died too but time will tell.

The XT line is essentially just zen 2 chips with higher clocks and prices to match offering just a few % points of performance over the standard chips.

Zen 3 / ryzen 4000 will be coming towards the end of the year and could offer up to 20% more performance over zen 2 so best to wait for those to land unless your desperate to upgrade now.

Seems to be around the following:

£160 for 3600x
£200 for f3600x
£240 for 3600xt
£280 for 3700x
£320 for 3800x
£390 for 3800xt
£420 for 3900x
£500 for 3900xt
£650 for 3950x

from a quick google anyways. The two that seem off are the 3800xt & 3900xt. If they were at a £40 markup like the 3600xt then I would say that would be reasonable.

Found it cheaper On the rainforest from a seller with terrible ratings but not by much.

LOl, i bought my 3950x from our hosts at retail price on the 13/12/2019 for £624.99. At the time it was the Recommended retail price from AMD and OCUK promised to sell it at that price and kept that promise. It is now £698.99 from OCUK.......................things change lol.

Sadly I've not purchased anything from overclockers for years because I can find the product considerably cheaper elsewhere. I've never had bad service from OCUK but if I'm buying online and most are price is key on products that hardly ever fail in the warranty period. As for XT chips. Only the un-educated would buy them.

Indeed that seems to be the issue with Overclockers, I have always found things generally cheaper and from somewhere I have tbh had just as good service when I have used them. Shame as do like the team.
