Looking at all the phases on the B550 motherboards,it makes me wonder whether Zen3 based CPUs will be a bit of a power hog??

what did most people moan about or worry when choosing mobos previous and current gen ? whether the board had good VRMS. so they done what they should have done first time round. this is why you dont buy the first gen of anything.

If most people actually took the same view, no one would buy any Intel mobo's because most of the them are not only First Gen but are also Last Gen at the same time.

so you gloss over the main reason i put. then looks at what you own. this forum is so AMD supermarket. lol.

look at what i said take off the AMD hat and see the logic. out of all what i put the first thing you thought of was INTEL ! lol.

what stopped people buying AMD motherboards or would you want to change to get more people to buy them when you release your next product ? you would look at what didnt work or wasnt optimum last release. then change that and keep the good.

bad VRM design or heat issues put many people off. now literally most of the 550 range are really well done. like the 450 and other boards should have been in the first place. often it takes a release so you find all the things you didnt get right or dont know will happen to fix in the next release. thats why you never go off the first run of new things as you are the guinea pig. many amd boards couldnt cope properly with the cpus they were supposed to take and got to over cooking temps.

now thats fixed. which is great. not only that they offer new boards now and took off the other major stopping point of people buying AMD the stupid little fan which wasnt even needed. they havent done that for no reason. they done is so more people will buy with confidence. which is brilliant for many on the fence of swapping to AMD or current AMD people looking to upgrade. you now know you can buy a board with great VRMS which you dont have to worry about also know you dont have to worry about the small fan noise or it breaking and having to change the mobo.

First you don’t have any room to fling the fanboy dung. That is literally all you do. Secondly even after multiple explanations you still refuse to understand why PCI-E 4 requires cooling. X570 uses a PCI-E 4 chipset link to the CPU. X550 uses PCI-E 3 to transfer between the chipset and CPU.

Amusing that dg waffles on about a chip-set fan like it's somehow a big issue. My board has one and I've yet to even hear it. Any noise it might make is less audible than the case fans so what is the issue exactly? Another pathetic point scoring exercise that has zero relevance.

Does this mean that going forward all new boards in the future with gen 4 on the chipset will require a fan or is there a way around this?.

It all depends on the transfer speed of the data and to some extent the node size. With higher transfer rates comes more potential for heat so it’s wise to include a chipset fan even if it isn’t required. One middle of the road gen 3 NVME, couple of SATA drives connected... probably not going to be an issue in a half decent case.

High performance PCI-3 SSD drives require heat sinks so do many network/SAS/HBA cards.

All that said, we seem to moving more and more toward the CPU taking care of connections.

to you. some people on here have had issues with them. also how old is your board? still pretty new. imagine in a few years time if bearing goes. you gunna have to bodge something on the board or...replace it. when a fan isnt even needed. so please dont call it waffle its a genuine concern and put many off buying 570 boards. why even take the risk ? when you dont have to ? people have there pcs for upto 5 years or more. having a tiny fan is asking for trouble. its not about hearing it. it about if it fails. also some people when putting gpus in they have heard noises or certain boards and designs it can cause issues. do you think amd have just made fanless boards right now for NO REASON ? they done it to give customers confidence and not to worry about the fans. i get if you got one but please dont act like its not a concern for many people.

Its only a "genuine concern" for you in point scoring shilltel mode as usual. By the time the fan gives out the board will be long gone. And if it does somehow give out when the warranty expires there's this thing called "the internet" where you can type in the serial number and get a replacement. So toddle along.

I remember in one of his last outbursts someone linked the various fans used by the motherboard manufacturers and MTBF rating was hundreds of thousands of hours.

And were chipset fans ever really a concern when they were commonplace? You got the odd loud one or failure but it wasn't exactly a big issue. I can't recall ever having a fan die on a pc be it intake, exhaust, gpu cpu or chipset and that's going back about 25 years.

People have been using small fans to help cool m.2 drives as well, its a non issue that he's trying to make an issue out of. But if Intel were to do the same be amazed at his silence on the issue.

what ? what is it with this forum and anything AMD mentioned = intel ? its really boring tbh that you cant reply honestly. if you have read anything to do with these new cpus you would see i actually love them and i will be buying on release. the only reason i never brought earlier is because of the stupid fan on the mobos. so yes that fan alone stopped me and others from buying the amd platform. you may get a replacement fan you may not. why buy twice though ? when you can buy once and not worry about it on a 550 board. as said amd have not added the fan as i said to give customers more confidence and get more sales. so saying its not a issue then why have amd removed the fan ?

I just want to throw my hat in with the "shintel" lot. A motherboard fan was a genuine concern to me and a reason I didn't jump on the 3000 series.

I lose "shintel" points tho for planning to buy a 4000 series chip with a B550 or X670. Sans chipset fan, of course.
