I got fed up of waiting for my 5900x. Didn't order from here since I was annoyed at the long 3080 MSI wait already. I was here when the 5900x backlog was cleared and they went on open sale, but foolish me, I objected to paying just shy of £600 when it cost me £509 where I'd ordered.

Now it's going to be weeks more before these turn up in the UK I wish I'd got one here when I could have. £100 extra would have been worth it, to me.

I've buckled and ordered a plain 3600 now for just shy of £200 (with delivery). Hoping hard that its resale value will hold up ok once the 5900x arrives.

I almost went for the 3500x, which I didn't hear much about before. Good price, but worry that its resale value might not hold up well, as I think.it's lesser known. Anyone had one of them, out of interest?

I had to Google this as I hadn't seen it before, but the 3500x doesn't have SMT which means it's one to avoid imo.

If I were you I'd rather have bought a 5600x for £300 than a 3600 for £200. Way faster than the 3600 in gaming and the resale value would still have been decent if you wanted to upgrade later don the line.

Yeah could be. But I spent some time watching the auctions and 3600 seemed to hold value ok. Weirdly 2700x's are selling for £140 or thereabouts which seems very high to me.

The real reason I didn't go for 5600x as an interim, if I'm being honest, is because I want to notice a real difference when the 5900x is in there. Something to look forwards to. I feared the step-up from 5600x to 5900x would be a huge anticlimax and make me realise I've just wasted 3 months of waiting and an extra £250. I'm the dream customer for a PC store, they see me coming ;/

Import it from other countries - it's available and at the MSRP ;) :D

I don't know why the UK (or Germany, for that matter) is screwed but other foreign retailers do get stock.

what if I have fault with it ? returning it doesnt seem fun and postage will be higher

fair enough i think the cpu is the rarest bit to fail though they usually break due to physical damage if anything !

My first 5900X was faulty, one of the cores didn't work properly and would cause the system to reboot.

While it's very unlikely you shouldn't assume you won't have problems, I definitely wouldn't recommend ordering from a place you can't easily get replacements as it's really not worth the hassle.

Your post made me chuckle as I go through the same thoughts. I bought a 3300x in October to tide me over until the 5900x arrives and it has been a champ so far. I am planning on upgrading to last me the next 3 years and there is no doubt in my mind that 12 cores is a better buy than 6 cores at this point in time for the best balance of gaming and productivity muscle. The 5900x is priced the most "reasonably" of the Zen3 lineup in cost per core.

However, the 5600x IS objectively a monster and performs close to the 5900x in most current games, so if I were you and I had only just ordered the 3600 then I would be cancelling it and would still just get the 5600x rather than pay top whack for a 3600 as I think you were a wee bit late to do this. The 5600x will still be easier to sell and retain more value than the 3600 which will only decrease in value now as Zen3 stock improves... and who knows you my not even need more power than the 5600x if all you do is game. It performs like a Zen2 8 core 3700x anyway in multi-threaded apps.

My first 5900X was faulty, one of the cores didn't work properly and would cause the system to reboot.

My 2+ decades of PC buying have taught me that buying locally where possible is the wisest strategy, as long as the financial savings are not considerable (ie: it can be worth it to buy abroad if you save a lot of money, but not simply because you are impatient). If on that rare occasion you DO have a problem with something so mission critical as a CPU or GPU, then you will really want to sort it out quickly and easily; buying locally makes this possible whereas buying abroad can make all of that a nightmare.

oh ok ha ha maybe its less rare now ? things are going **** up lol

Some of you might find this interesting.

In the notes for the next agessa the last sentence says "allows support for fanless x570 boards.
There are already a couple of fanless mobos on the market... my guess is that this gives some extra power management options for managing current a heat going through that controller.

I know that feeling.
Having got burnt with the 3080TuF and how OC dealt with the whole situation I order my 5900x from somewhere else and going by the price you paid it looks like the same place. While OC had 1500 turn up before Christmas the expected 1200 they were expecting never arrived and are still overdue.
I would never pay OC £600 they are clearly milking their own customers it's the 3000 series treatment all over again.
I have been thinking about dropping down to the 5800x and cancelling the 5900x just think as soon as I do 1000's are going to turn up. My gambles so far have not paid off! My thoughts are I have a 7700k which is hardly sluggish so am going to hold out for the 5900x as I think it will pair better with the ridiculous 3090FE I ended up getting.

Same situation, ordered for 509 and ended up just cancelling and going for the 5800x in the end, it just looked like another long wait for any info and with parts sitting here i just wanted to build

Also coming from the 7700k ive had 0 issues with the 5800x and its a beast for gaming which is my primary use anyway, no regrets.

The 5900x situation is just crazy... I mean the supply is absolutely crazy low. Ironically the 5800x is STILL in stock and has been for the last couple of months.

The 5800x is 420EUR (£370) and the 5900x is 510EUR (£455).

I really want a 5900x so I will hold on as I think they will come early next month, but I have been tempted once or twice to go for the 5800x.

Same as myself to be fair.

I would definitely hold on in your case... that price difference is relatively small. Here I've got a 5900x on back order for £510, but I can get a 5800x for £350, which is really making me consider the 5800x. However, my current CPU/mobo is about 10 years old... if I take a similar approach with this build, then I think the 5900x will pay dividends down the line.
