*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I'm so glad i didn't jump for the skylake deal just before christmas. . . Has anybody seen some rough Asrock board prices?

Not sure if anyone has seen but the Asus motherboard price leaks are looking cheapppppppp. Nearly get a whole platform and the cost of one intel CPU.

Loving the new forum look on mobiles!

Dunno yet, should be cheaper than Asus though, looking at the Taichi myself :) white and black with a hint of blue, will fit my Phantek case nicely as its got a blue LED down the front, been trying to source some Avexir Raiden 3000mhz DDR4 Ram but its like rocking horse poop it seems

SOON!!
I really hope they hype and leaks are near true.

slight change of subject. Several leaks have suggested that the 1800x and 1700x won't come with a stock cooler, which is fine, if you're paying for a high end CPU that can overclock its self you'll want to put a really nice cooler on there.

My question is, do we think the 1400x will have a cooler? at approx. £200 you'll not really want to spend a lot more on a cooler, and most coolers in the £25 price range isn't much better than AMDs wraith cooler?

Just seems a bit messy if your option is a 4 core 8 thread with a half decent cooler for just about the same price as the lower end 6 core 12 thread with a wraith cooler?

I know that they are seen as the cheaper brand, but my 990fx board has been flawless for 6yrs so i am prepared to give them my money this time round.

I believe that all the SKUs leaked are retail chips with boxed cooler. The X suffix being binned "Black Edition" chips, possibly with XFR enabled over non-x. Just speculation at the moment though

Since it is an Australian store, the prices are in Australian dollars plus the markup generally tacked on to items when exported. To convert to the US dollar value, the price must be converted then compared to how the regular stock prices are from the same store. It appears that the prices on that site have a 40% markup on regular prices after conversion, verified by looking at their current Z270 crop, so after normalization, the prices will look like:

  • ASUS Crosshair VI Hero = $209
  • ASUS Prime X370-PRO = $149
  • ASUS Prime B350 PLUS = $89
  • ASUS Prime B350M-A = $69
The result is surprisingly affordable. Hopefully these prices hold up when launch date arrives.

Choo Choo!!!

Considering i had issues with Asus and Gigabyte in the past ill give asrock another shot. I like to stay loyal :p

Judging by what everyone is saying I may well end up getting the top of the range ASRock motherboard for my new 1800X. Hopefully it'll be really good for overclocking when paired with a decent cooler. I'm thinking I'll get the top of the range Noctua CPU air cooler to go along with it all.

If all of this is even remotely true I hope AMD have enough stock to at launch to prevent it being vaporware for months...

That shouldn't be such a big hit to performance that the 3.2 and 4.0 ghz cores perform the same. I'm trying to say how they calculated per core performance is a little strange / wrong.

They just divided the score by number of physical cores. It may make sense for the physics workload. A lot of data moving about, both bandwidth and latency having a greater impact and becoming a dominant bottleneck. If is is due to that there is no way to normalise to account for it - which you wouldn't want to do anyway.

Looking at the prices, im thinking the 1700x would suit my budget just fine. But Asrock will certainly be my first choice board
