AMD Zen3 event thread

I imagine improvements over Zen 2 or my current CPU won't matter much for 4K60 gaming on an ITX build but I can't shake off that upgrade itch!

What if Zen 3 only reaches parity with cometlake in gaming and loses in edge case like farcry 5, is that a disappointment? to me it is.

The 8 core should be decently faster than the 9900k otherwise it will be disappointing considering it is 2 years old
And stuck on an ancient process and is just yet another refresh of an ancient architecture.
Zen 3 needs to win big to go down as a great chip.
Beating Accrington Stanley seven six on penalties after extra time is not the performance of a premier product.

Annoyingly booked someone to come in to quote me for something at 5pm, so will miss it...not that I expect anything to go on sale immediately but, as already said...HYPE.
Ha, I am already double booked for *two* Zoom meetings with work at 5pm, no chance of watching live.

are you guys excited????????

Damn I thought it was 4pm UK time and am out at 5. Will have to watch the whole thing tonight. And a good excuse to get a pizza whilst watching it too!

Got to laugh at people saying it's not good enough unless it beats stuff in games. What if it was 150% better in games but utter garbage at everything else, would that be ok as well?

Yes, because you just described Skylake and it's 10,000 derivatives :P

what was the point in an event thread for people to talk the same rubbish as in all the other threads. Maybe a moderator can lock this to 6pm makes more sense

It's only on for 24 minutes (YouTube shows this). With how long the over dramatic intro graphics will be and stuff, we will have about 15 minutes of info.

I'm on late shift today... Hopefully it's not too busy so I can catch this as it happens!

Will be watching with interest, but I’m afraid I’ve already made my mind up. I dropped £780 on a 3900X and X570 board last year and have just dropped another £750 on a 3080. Seeing as it’s the last AM4 CPU, it’s just not gonna be worth the upgrade for me. May be if it was 40-50% faster, but in reality, you’ll be lucky if it’s an extra 20% faster in real world applications.

Unless you're someone that upgrades every gen, if you're on 3000 series, probably no point upgrading with AM5 coming next time around, if you're on a 2000 or 1000 series and you're on a board that will support the 5000 series, then it's probably a good shout to upgrade.
