AMD’s New High Performance Processor Cores Coming Sometime in 2015 – Giving Up on Modular Architectu

Good for them, the trouble with the modular design is that in many applications you have large portions of the hardware sitting idle. AMD FX loses a lot of performance in lightly threaded/brute force situations.

Is AM3+ completely dead now then? they don't appear to have anything planned on that front.

I'm sure most people would rather AMD to gain their status back of being the best CPUs for gaming. Might actually make CPUs cheaper!

Too bad there's nothing for 2014. Z97 calls

Indeed, even if they came out with something amazing in 2016, it's still 2yrs away, 2yrs that I can be enjoying Intel level performance with a new Z97 build.

So, I hope you comeback with all guns blazing AMD...but anyone who puts off moving to Intel in anticipation of more jam tommorrow promises from AMD, is a nutter.

Tbh, this is just the kind of news that makes me think twice about going z97...

I think my 2500k and 290 will easily last 2 more years! (@ 1080p)

Why wouldn't it?....your CPU + GPU is an order of magnitude more powerful than either of the new consoles, so for games it will be more than enough to run the new wave of console ports in the next 2yrs.

The only reason I'm going to build a new Z97 rig in July is because I'm still on a Phenom II 965 and now need the higher IPC that Intel can give.

I certainly wouldn't be bothering If I had a 2500k rig.

Agreed, any Intel CPU from past couple years should have no problems with gaming etc over next couple of years, by then should see some real progress made in CPU's..

Those who do move to Z79 now will get Devil's Canyon and then potentially Broadwell next year, so that would take them right up to AMD's new CPU arch on 14nm with DDR4.

Either way, let's hope in 2016 AMD get truly competitive again.

It's a shame to see any one vendor have a lead as it deprives us of choice (and heated arguments over who's best!). Let's hope that we're offered real alternatives at the right price soon.

At last, the fightback begins (hopefully). With any luck if they launch a cpu that's any good it will give Intel a kick in the butt and give us proper advances instead of 100mhz a time. It might bring their prices back down to where they should be too. This should be a win for the consumer.

That's what I mean :)

I think I would have to be a nutter to upgrade to Z97 and not wait it out and see what is on the table in a couple of years.

(who knows, might even be DDR4 then too)

And there was much rejoicing :) Right now, good single thread support still matters for PCs, and it's nice that AMD have realised it (finally).

Just hope this won't become Bulldozer v2. Full of hype and fanfare and excitement about the new powerful 8 core CPU architecture that would tear up the benchmarks! I remember waiting ages for the first reviews, on the edge of my seat with anticipation... then immediately buying Intel when the NDA expired and the facts came out.

New AMD big core CPU!
****scream****
Roll on 2016!

It WILL be good, even if it's not enthusiast level (mainstream i5/i7 is fine by me). They simply won't make the same Bulldozer mistakes.

The interchangeable x86/ARM SoCs sound interesting too.
