Yes his son was his actual son. I don't claim to understand how this works, but it does happen. I once had a work colleague with an ex-wife and two children (TWO CHILDREN!) He was gayer than Graham Norton.

I viewed that as testing him, testing the guy to find out if he was gay, the one garanteed way to find out, was to come on to him, which he did and the other guys response confirmed his suspicions, which bought about the pain later on.

The military man was gay. He's the ultimate in repressed gay homophobe cliche. What happened afterwards was ensuring that he wouldn't be outted.
