AMG GT R - Der Tag

I know it’s not in the same league but Alfa were absolutely woeful with my 4C, could see them wince every time I pulled up. I can’t believe they tried to launch the GTAm under this brand, no wonder they put a Maserati badge on the 6C and pushed them back to Ferrari.

I think Alfa is up there with my worst ever too. Years back when the 156 was new I had a couple, the first being a 2L Twin Spark (LOVELY engine that for the time) and I recall taking it to Alfa Cheltenham (I think long gone now). I parked it first thing, came back end of day and it was still where I left it. As I walked in they rushed it inside and tried to convince me it was just being finished. 15 minutes later the car reappears, badly washed and the keys returned. First thing I did was pull the dip stick and yup, black oil.

Terrible and I lost my crap....and it was a company car too.

It is little different to most warranties. It is the big bills I wanted covered, mechanical and electrical items. My R8 was no different, but come new gearbox time Audi got the £23K bill, not me.

Jag warranty is immense, ripped my seat belt on my belt buckle, no worries warranty paid

XKR twice stuck in gear, new box without me asking

and best one was some suspension bushes, not covered by warranty but it had MOT fail cover, came back from MOT with advisories and it was suggested to the tester that he had another look, they then failed and were swapped :D

Bad on my part but I assumed Ferrari warranty was same level (didn't check) as Jag and Porsche but it sounds like it's similar to yours, I have 2 years with car and then its 2.2k a year which for a limited warranty is poor but when a new engine is likely to be 30k plus (just a guess) I will probably still take it

I guess the difference between Mercedes and Ferrari/Lambo, is that the AMG GT R is pretty rare for the marque and their day-to-day dealings will be with more 'standard' cars. Whereas, Ferrari/Lambo that's the only class of car they work with, and will therefore be specialists on it.

.

I was thinking the same, Housey will be top notch celeb with best car at Merc dealer, I will be the peasant who's car they park round the back at Ferrari :p

Interesting thoughts on dealers, and I share the views on Stoke Mercedes who are local to me. Always got the impression of poor management lurking behind the shiny showroom. kinda like a shiny veneer with crappy chipboard underneath.

Having my 911 serviced at the end of this month, and its a similar mixed bag in my mind. Originally went to wilmslow and was put off by their snooty service people who didnt really want to speak to you unless your a footballer, and when I had a test drive their salesperson didnt place the trade plates nicely in the rear screen rather just chucked them and it clattered on the inside of the screen... its the little things which show they either care or dont give a monkeys.

On the flipside i've been using porsche wolverhampton and had a much nicer experience, or at least the cracks dont show as easy! Dealt with very efficiently, plenty of feedback, engaged in a good way; car was in their service showroom area when i picked it up etc. Just a good experience. This month its going in, and they agreed to pick up and drop off; and without asking they told me their driver was 20 years as a police driver and would take excellent care of it.... again the little things to pre-empt your obvious discomfort on parts of the process. We shall see eh.

Amazing car housey btw! love it.

Been a while since I owned my 911 but I found Wilmslow fantastic to deal with for warranty claims and servicing, was also great bagging stuff like Cayman R, 981 Boxster S for a weekend also, loved absolutely thrashing the demo cars they would hand out. :D

Cheers Mike, enjoying the car immensely, less so Mercedes dealers :)

Just shows how peoples experiences can be so different. give you an example, wilmslow wouldnt paint my wheels because of some flannel that it would void warranty and the wheels would fall off... no joke...... asked wolverhampton and they said they did it all the time and would do the work, warranty it and told me in writing the vehicle warranty was fine. Just got the impression with wilmslow they were trying to have me off tbh. Also I actually bought a carmine car from wilmslow; put a deposit down and they said they would take it out the showroom and into secure storage.... went back a week later and the cars still in the showroom with prospective customers sitting in it!

New dynamic engine mount fitted today under warranty, identified as the cause of my suspension malfunction message. Also had radiator grill covers fitted as a recall upgrade FOC. Macclesfield Mercedes have been exceptionally well organised and really good on keeping me updated on what they found, what they are doing and timings to get the car back.

That is all I expect. Stoke/Stafford Mercedes never bothered to call me back either via their call centre who asked if they could call me or via an online survey request.

Got the car back, sorted.

Also, front grills now have some protection from this...

That's a proper Mercedes part then? I was going to say it looks very neat and OEM, when you first mentioned the problem, I had a fear you might have to resort to a home made solution with chicken wire or something :D
