Back him with few players in January I feel once Fernandes is back and players from Afcon we will do alright, top 6 is certainly better then last season disaster.

At the start of the season none of us thought we would be competing with Arsenal, City, Pool. Juking it out with Newcastle, Tottenham, Villa, Chelsea was probably the goal. We are doing that. Imagine they had bought a decent CM. Could that be the difference? Yes its been a hard watch at times but I do feel there is a better spirit. The team aren't collapsing to the defeats we were last season which tells you something about the application and dressing room cohesion. I think he has brought a cultural reset but fundamentally we do not have the squad to be any better.

I still think he needs the rest of the season.

I have said that too, 5th/6th is about the ceiling for this squad. Perhaps a better manager with no European football could ensure 4th or 5th, but we are so very light in midfield.

His comments may well change things though, look at what happened to Maresca recently.

Given the inconsistency all around us, 5th needs to be the goal....and you'd think without Fernandes being crocked we'd be there or thereabouts. Getting CL will improve our summer transfer potential.

Amorin is in a pretty tight spot at the moment, he doesn't have *any* subs that can come on and improve the team.....apart from Zirkzee, and he did exactly that.

All I wanted to see from Amorin was a bit of tactical flexibility rather than sticking to his wingbacks even when it wasn't working. He's done that and we've looked better, but we are properly hamstrung by our weak squad right now.

“I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.”

So he no longer wants to be here for the long term.
In that case why should they buy players to suit the system of a coach that will be replaced in no more than 18 months. Which will then not likely be suitable for his replacement.

Thats the problem he is talking about, they havent been buying players he wants but buying players for him. He wanted and supposedly agreed to be manager of Utd which means he has say over what players he needs and who to buy. Instead he was placed as a coach and was given the players he has to work with. For instance Sesko was bought in by Vivell and was not what Amorim wanted, he wanted a proven striker but Utd wanted to get in youngsters with potential although they changed tack by going with PL proven players with Mbuemo and Cunha

utd arent backing him in january though

We have no money to back him more like. Media always like to spin the narrative.

Also how could we be that unlucky to lose Fernandes whilst all our good players are away at Afcon.

We are missing half of our starting eleven realistically.

There are very few clubs that pick up good players in January. It happens but its rare. Who could we buy to fill those CM positions that is available, wouldn't be really expensive and a big gamble?

When Amorim was appointed they stated very clearly that he was the head coach - not manager - so his comments do seem a little odd from that perspective, too.

The press seem to think his position is on the verge of being untenable, but that could well be guesswork. Nothing from what I'd call the great sources yet.

Ultimately he's in no position to be making demands like this... while our league position looks ok, we're 3 points off 4th and 4 points off 14th... so a couple of results could turn things quite dramatically.

Exactly. The league is ridiculous considering we are half way through the season. A good run of 5 games could see you in CL positions and a bad one near the bottom of the table.

Things will likely be better come the end of January when we get our 3 AFCON players back along with hopefully Bruno but he needs to do whatever hes doing with this squad until the summer and he needs to make a much stronger case for keeping his job in the second half of the season.

Does RA have enough in the bank to come out with comments like yesterday and still keep his job?

Isn’t he still statistically the worst UTD manager in history? His league finish last year was terrible and he appears be to tactically inept. Almost every month he makes comments to seemingly force the board to sack him etc.

No he doesn't and I think he has had enough and don't care if he gets sacked now.
